Hi everyone,
My hunt today took me back to a spot I had hit earlier with my previous detector. It is the site of our old library--a house that was built in 1929 and was a parsonage for the church next door before being turned into the city library. Last week I pulled a couple of Mercs from the sidewalk strip that borders two sides of the house, so today I planned to focus on the main lawn area--an area that is roughly 20 feet wide by 75 feet long.
The first couple of hours only produced 10 clad coins, so I wasn't feeling too good about my prospects of finding a keeper. I was about 10 feet from finishing a detecting line I was working on when I picked up what sounded like a smattering of possible good targets. Working the area, I isolated one of the targets indicating a 10-43 and pulled a 6" plug. Checking the hole with the X-1 told me I was right over the target, which was now indicating a 12-43/44. I figured at this depth, it should be at least a Wheatie....with another small plug, out pops a '44-D Wheatie. Back on my feet, I worked to isolate target #2. It was about a foot away, indicating 11-44, and sounded a little higher and sweeter than the previous find. I pulled another 6" plug and checked with the X-1. Again I was dead center over the target that was now singing a sweet 12-45 tone. I'm thinking "oh yeah, silver dime" and with the next plug out pops a pretty little '42-S Merc. "Who
