Possible Future Problem Prevented

Yeasty

I noticed that when the lower shaft is extended to my desired length the coil wire is stretched quite a bit. The access hole, where the wire goes into the shaft, has fairly sharp edges where the wire could possibly chafe because it's pulled very tight to the hole. I think I have prevented this future problem using some nylon spiral-wrap.

A smart idea, thanks.

Great post.. should be sticky'd...

When I first assymbled mine I thought I was missing a snap on guide to keep the coil wire from laying on that sharp edge. My Explorer had a snap in guide at that location. After not finding one in the box I plan on eventually wrapping the coil wire with something there to protect it. It would be a wise idea for a few wraps of something there to protect the coil wire from long term wear.

That's a good idea

Good idea, I have been thinking about doing something there too for the same reason.

I put a couple of layers of black gaffers tape over that edge on the lower shaft.---A person could also wrap a round of gaffers tape on the cable also, it doesn't leave any residue if the tape is removed later.---I may do that also.----The cable needs some protection, that shaft edge is sharp.-------Del

GOOD EYE !!!! I ran some wire loom wrap around mine all the way up the factory strain relief for extra protection,,,,

This is a construction failure and ML should be responsible to ship out some protection to solve this problem. According to Norwegian law I have 5 years warranty on this.

I put about a 15 inch of wire loom wrap (snake skin) around my coil wire to protect it from the sharp edges of where it goes into the lower rod. You can find it at auto stores, The size i used fit very well ans was just a little bigger than the coil wire itself.
