I really like the finding the old dog tags.
If yours turns out to be a dog tag - it could be the oldest I've seen posted yet - congrats !

Wow! That is old! I wondered, how you know its a dog tag? What is C T P ? 1881 is cool!

CTP from what I have found stands for "City Tax Paid". Not certain it's an animal tag, just a guess
on my part.

I sold a 1884 Indiana dog tag for 40.00 that I found

That make sense! I don't know that dog tag was as early as late 1800's! Earliest I found is 1951 dog tag!

I find them every now and again and usually it is a Rabies Vaccination. I found one the other day that was really old, I won't state the date from Memory, but I was not aware that there was Rabies vaccinations that long ago.

I find that stuff I find that is not coins for me is best served by selling it on ebay. Therefore, I can buy more coils etc. I also sold a brass stove topper for 50 bucks on ebay.
