Pro coil vs SEF 12 X10

anybody have any thoughts on the 12x10" SEF (Butterfly) VS the stock Pro coil
 
Stick with the Pro Coil. To tell the biggest difference, lay a one pound pack of anything on the pro coil and swing it for a while. It needs coasters that do not come with the SEF.
 
I have both. I have used one and then the other at re-visits to sites I've detected and found stuff I've missed with the Procoil.
 
Have many hours on both. Prefer the weight of the ProCoil, but I didn't like pinpointing with it. The 10x12 SEF is my coil of choice now. It is true that it is heavy, but it forces you to slow down when hunting in the turf. I think it has helped me to eek out deeper coins that way, mainly because of the behavior modification.
 
After using both for some time I ended up mainly using the SEF. I think both work very simialr but I love that oval type shape and feel it helps me to focus on swing and constant oreintation to the ground, plus it looks wicked and lots of folks go wow cool...I also have a 8x10 sef now and both are fine, tight, and crisp seekers of small objects.

After 3 SEF 10x12s I will stay with the Pro coil.I like the lighter weight but that is not what I base my choice on.I based it on many hundreds of hours of infield use and several rounds of tests in my coin garden.I could find no reason to keep the 10x12 as the Pro coil would match or very slightly better the SEF in all my tests in my soil.

Your results may vary depending on your soil and other variables.I would recommend any one curious about any of the sef coils buy and test for their own use.If it does not suit them it will be easy to resell at only a slight loss .

I have the 8x6 sef and find it to be superb for those sights requiring a smaller coil and it will almost match the depth of it's bigger brother the 12x10.

I also have the larger 15x12 and 18x15 monsters and love them for areas where there is a lot of wide open ground to cover with sparse targets.
 
I have not put a lot of time on the SEF but have to agree...the pro coil seems to do a great job especially being less in weight. I hope to find that the SEF will out perform the pro coil...but as of yet...it has not!
 
I have the 10x12 and 6x8 and the monster ( not used much). I agree, they arer heavy, but definitly cover the ground nicely and very stable. Love the 6x8 for small or junk areas, very good depth. HH
 
I'm with Ray on this one for sure............................Had 7 SEF coils and the Pro coil has turned out to be my favorite. I love the Sunray X8 and use it a lot but the Pro coil almost always stays on the machine. Like Ray, 3 10X12's, 3 6X8's, and 1 12X15 which I used a little over 15 minutes. Sold it brand new used 15 minutes. The weight is the killer for me. It takes the fun from my detecting.
 
I have the 10X12 and it is my everyday coil. Very stable, and yes, heavy, but I still love it!
 
I prefer the pro-coil for reasons already mentioned. It seems like the SEF 10X12 performs very well on Soveriegn machines but they do not have a pro-coil to compare. The man that has trouble pin-pointing with the pro-coil. Have you tried barely wiggling your coil while slowly pulling the coil backwards. This works for me as I have'nt pushed a pin-point button with a DD coil in forever unless I use PP with my Sun-Ray probes. When the target sound goes away the target is just in front of the coil. This works for me. HH :minelab:

I did learn that pinpointing with the ProCoil was as you describe. I guess I'm set in my ways, but like to have targets pinpoint right under the center of the coil for some reason. Plus, in my soil, I seem to get a little better depth with the 10x12 SEF. Bryce-IL done a lot of in-field testing with both Pro and SEF coils and has a good thread on the subject:

Had the 10X12 and got rid of it, I like the Pro Coil better.
 
Got out this morning before the storm. Searched with the 10x12 and found 2 barber dimes 1900, 1905, which I hunted previously with the Pro coil. Maybe just good luck or maybe not. Coil did get a little heavy after 3 hrs, though. HH mIke
 
I know I find stuff I missed using the Pro Coil. Don't get me wrong, I like them both and think they are equally great coils. I will rehunt spots I have checked with the Pro Coil and find stuff with the SEF. The SEF coils allow me to hunt at a higher sensitivity.
