Questions About Quick Mask & Combined Programs

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
I've only been in this hobby for 6 months and I've only had my E- Trac about 4 months now - so I'm still going through the learning curve.

I mainly hunt around old farm houses, 100 + year old cut stone foundations and the sand beach's at swim clubs and state parks.
My targets are primarily new and old coins and gold and silver jewelry - I don't do any relic hunting at all.
I've loaded Andy's combined Coin & Jewelry program in my E-Trac and have had real good luck with it - what a great machine !

So here are my questions ...

# ( 1 ) --- I want hunt these old house sites in Quick Mask - running as open as possible - so I don't miss any good targets - but as you know these sites are usually loaded with all types of iron & junk. I would like to eliminate as much noise as possible with out knocking out the lower FE reading larger silver coins like the - FE - (01) CON - (40-41) Silver Dollars.
I've never programed Quick Mask before. Any suggestions ?

# ( 2 ) --- In Andy's book he says that combining the factory coin & jewelry programs will result in missing some Indian & Zinc Cents and some Gold.
Do you know what gold range numbers are not detected using this combined program ?
Or should I modify this program to let all the gold numbers in ?

Have I misunderstood any of the information that I read in Andy's book ?
What are your thoughts ?
Thanks in advance ! --- Mark

I can't help you with your question, but since I've read similar posts on here, I thought I'd ask. I can't get my head around this one thing. I don't know anything about the E-trac, but when you're hunting for coins, gold and silver, why not just disc out iron, and dig everything else. If you don't do that, no matter how intricate you program the machine, aren't you still likely to miss certain targets; some particular coins; certain gold, etc?

Mark, give me a call and i'll talk you through setting up the quickmask.Very easy.It is now my mode of choice for many applications.A great feature for a great machine!

this is something I'd like to see answered because I am getting an etrac soon and now with my xterra 70 I ONLY disc out iron and dig everything above that, can't this be done on the etrac as well?

Absolutely. Note I'm drawing from memory here, so someone please correct me if I make a mistake - In Quickmask mode you simply use the "up" arrow to raise the ferrous discrimination to a level that you're comfortable with. For example, I discriminate FE=27-35, because my soil is above average in mineralization and trash. In clean ground, you could probably lower the ferrous number even further. Once you've got your ferrous discrimination then push the detect button to save the discrimination in smart find mode. Some people report iron or hot rock falses on the FE=1 line, and CO=50 line. If you're one of them then you'll have to use edit mode to dial those in together with the iron disc mentioned above.

Just thinking here!

#1 - 2 tone ferrous. Yes you will still here many sounds but they will either be high or low. You then have to decide what to dig. The price to pay for no discrimination. Personally I would disc some iron.

#2 - Wow, going from no disc to a ton? Can't say because I never thought of combining them.

About Andy's book, still not sure I understand it all, and I've read it and flickered through a lot!
