Road tripped to St.Louis to raid some parks for some silver deepies. Plucked out an 1829 capped bust dime!!:surprised:

Well I decided to head to St.Louis to raid some parks before the weather gets too bad. I met up with Holedigger and boy did we have some fun. These parks have been hammered for 4 decades or more but there's obviously still goodies there. ...you just have to be patient and relentless. These are the same parks a ton of us just hit a few weeks ago at the seminar get together. I said then that I was coming back to hunt again and that's just what I did. I had my 6" coil on so we decided to sift through the trashiest and nastiest of spots at each of these parks. I don't care what anyone says...NO place is EVER hunted out. I have taken great pride this year in hunting ONLY pounded to death sites hoping to locate some coins missed and walked over the last 30 years or so. As technology changes between machines..coils...settings...hunting styles..etc....it opens NEW doors to find goodies.
I ended up with more memorials than I have ever dug before...seriously...and I refuse to give you THAT total. ALL of the coins I found were from 5" to 7" and every coin was beneath...beside...on top of...or next to garbage in the hole. Heck I found the barber dime at 6" under a root in a hole with a pulltab and nail. I then dug a clad dime at over 7"???? That's why I decided to dig all signals that were 4" or more. Every memorial I dug was down at least 5"...so I had to dig em'.
The last part of the day I dug what I thought for sure was a seated dime...but my eyes are getting bad...so I wasn't sure.I handed it to Dennis and kept saying "I got a seated...I got a seated"....and Dennis said "holy shi#"...I think you do. He then says "wait a minute"..."holy shi%..I think you got a capped bust". I said "a WHAT. He then says...."son of a b$%^&" it IS a capped bust. We both figured a soldier dropped that coin in the 1860's or so. There would be no other explanation for it being there. Dennis said that was the first capped bust dime that he knew of ever coming out of that park in all the years he and the detecting club had been hunting there.
I ended with 5 wheaties...a silver roosey....a 1900 Indian head....2 mercs 1928 and 39...a 1900 barber dime...a lunch token...and then struck paydirt with the 1829 bust dime. I've been chuckling to myself how Holedigger and I were sitting there looking at it and neither of us was exactly sure what it was for a while and couldn't read the date either. Man...we're getting old! What a couple of goofs...we're sitting there all excited and couldn't even see the date on the freakin' coin because we didn't have our glasses on..ha ha.
It was a great road trip and hopefully I can do it again some time. Holedigger took me to some spots that silver was found in the past and we had a great time. I'll let him tell you about his finds if he wants too. He did well also...trust me:clapping:

Well I guess I missed out,but thats my fault.I'm happy for you, that is older then any coin i have ever found.Next time it will be easer to find coins with all of those Penny's gone.I have done the same thing before and found good stuff.Congrats for a great find.Good luck on your next hunt.

Yep, Crow-Duck looks like we both messed up not going with Bryce. I had a poor weekend, but was able to get out. Can't wait to get my new Explorer SE. Maybe we can meet up with Bryce early next year.

Great Job Bryce. Your the Silver King

Man!!! That is one Coin I would love to find coming out of the dirt! It may be worn but she's a beauty! Congrat's on all them great finds and Continued Success, Good Luck and HH.

NICE FINDS BRYCE, THE 6 INCH COIL STRICKS AGAIN, WISH I COULD OF WENT TO BUT YOU GUYS DID GREAT FINDING SILVER NEVER GETS OLD WTG...PHIL

it's my weapon of choice about 95% of the time. If the ground is extra clean and low mineralization...I will put the cz70 to the turf...but rarely is that the case anymore. I have been using thje SE and 6" excelerator coil in the most extreme trash sites I can find. I'm talking about sites where you don't even move your feet for 30 seconds at a time. You just stand there in one spot for a couple of minutes and just slowly "scan" the ground with the coil. You don't even swing the coil....just scan the ground with it. It is amazing that you can find coins with 2 or 3 pieces of crap directly in the hole with the coin.

You should've gone brother. It was a blast and the small coil was the way to go in this crap. An 8" coil would NOT have done the trick here becaues of the extreme trash. That 7" deep capped bust was right at the brink of max depth for the 6" coil but it did do the trick. It wasn't even a flutey hit...just a single high pitched chirp that I thought was iron...but when I began to circle the hole it repeated the chirp each and EVERY time. Well I'm headed your way in about 15 minutes. Maybe we can scare up a wheatie or something this morning.

coil in 30 years of hunting. It just simply finds stuff that other coils miss...and that includes the 8" coils. In extreme trash...it is amazing what stuff this little critter pops out of the ground.

When I got my xs I went directly to a junky spot and found silver. kind of like starting a game at advanced level, quite a challenge but very good experience, I'm gonna have to get one of them 6"ers. That chill in the air says better get it while its good.
