Today was the day. After 20 years of detecting. It's ugly, but dangit, it's my goal coin for this year and it's all mine. Those of you who know me well know how badly I wanted a seated coin this year and how great this day is for me.

My detecting buddy Suzanne was out at the park earlier in the day and found silver, so later when I had some time to get away in the afternoon, we met up. She picked the spot and right off the bat she got a (very nice) coin that had been on her wish list. I grumbled, as I often do and kept hunting. I then got a XX-42 signal on the E-Trac and thought I had a wheat cent. I opened the hole and had a thin chalky grey disc.:surprised: I called Suzanne over and said, "I think it's seated!" I could see the reeded edge, so I knew it was a coin, and most likely a silver dime. I started gently working at it with spit to get some detail and Suzanne ran to the car to get a water bottle. By the time she got back I could see the head of Liberty. My seated coin! Finally! It is an 187X, so doesn't even have a clear date on it, but I'm pleased as punch to have found it. We joked that since we had both found things we were wanting it was time to leave, you know how that goes when you seem to find all the good stuff early on in the hunt and then little else the rest of time. Signals were few and far between.

But the goodness of today's three coin hunt didn't end. We kept detecting and I picked up a 1951-D wheat cent, and then wandered over to an area near where Suzanne had been hunting. I got a nice 12-46/47 signal and opened the hole and the probe sang that nice high pitched tone. I figured silver dime or quarter, maybe. Nope. A really superb 1848 large cent! Seated, large cent... what a day! :detecting:

Great read Nick! A huge congratulations. Is this your first seated ever???...or just this year? Many times, for me, seated and barbers sound like wheats until you get closer with the probe - BUT - I have had wheat signal and get closer with probe and sounds like silver - and still be a wheat. Gets goofy sometimes.

I want to thank you for your pictures too!

First Seated ever. Hard to believe, I know. I dug a gorgeous bust dime last year and a ton of silver coins (299 last year) but this is my first Seated. The large cent is really the star of this show and a much better coin, but feels great to finally have one.

Awesome Nick! A very BIG Congratulations to ya on your first one then. I'm going out on a limb and say you'll probably find another fairly soon. Seems like thats the way it goes sometimes....hope so for you anyway!

Congratulations! Very nice coins. A seated coin is my goal for next year and I believe my research will pay off, I'll let 'Ya know.

Nick A,
That is AWESOME man.
I understand (but haven't yet experienced) your excitement.
My dad has dug probably 12 silver coins in 3 years of hunting (lack of spots and closed to hunting city parks) but.....
2 of the silvers were seated dug in the same week.
I tried to tell him how "lucky" he was and showed him posts on Findmall
that guys were digging 200, 300,and 400 silvers a year with ZERO seated coins.
NOW he sees how lucky he is.
Thanks for sharing and hopefully Neb Trac is right - it often comes in streaks!

Way to go Nick ! :beers:

Awesome,two great finds!

Great finds! I've never seen a silver coin out of the ground in that condition, was there anything around it? It's an awesome find and looks to have a lot of detail left. I'm sure there is some safe way to clean it up!

Hats off Nick,

Good to see your year ended with a BANG! Just converted to the E and am still trying to change mind set. CONGRATS!!!

Once again, Nick, my hat is off to you. I'm glad you found your first Seated coin. Now that outstanding Capped Bust dime you found will have some company.:cheekkiss:
