S/N Question????????????

Active member
My S/N is 9071-3198-002 so is my Unit #2 off the Line??????????? Thanks All, Mic

No Tad I just have one Vision Dos the S/N mean seconed off the Line??????

I don't know where the ser # started in production Mic, but I'm pretty sure mine is 7-002 and I'm still using a Beta ver.93.

What date did you purchase?

tec my Date is 3/9/09

There are two serial numbers on the Vision. One is on the initial turn-on screen (scroll down) and the other is on the white sticker inside the battery compartment door. I noticed the two were different and asked White's when I was on the phone with their service department.

White's engineer told me that "the real serial number" is the one inside the battery compartment door."f

(Mine's #016)

Well if the serial number on the battery door is the real serial number, then what is the different serial number in the registration for????????? Shouldn't they match. The number on the door can be taken off, then what would identify the unit????????

Can someone answer my question??? Thank You

I think AK 1234 answered the software # on another post Mick, can't remember what she said specifically, other than don't worry about it. If you registered your V, your name and address is embeded into the operating system. That's what will identify your V until you change it with the security code that only you have.

Hi Larry, I put my name in the Unit, I was just wondering 4R funnn???????????? You say AK1234 did a post
will look it up, Mic

My bad, it was Andrea....... http://www.findmall.com/read.php?66,986021

MickFin, I don't know how many units were sold before yours.

The original goal of the software serial number is to prevent burglars from being able to change the software. So, when you input your name and any contact info you want in the unit, you want to write down your password that comes up when you first go to do that. Where the software serial number comes into play is, if you forgot your password, then you can call White's and get the password if you are the legitimate owner of the machine - the password is linked to the software serial number in our database. Now, if people are registering using the serial number off the battery door, then the contact information that White's has is from that serial number rather than the software serial number. And therefore a thief could take that serial number off and that number couldn't be used to identify the machine as yours. However, if you have input your name in the detector, that can be used as ID. And a thief will still not be able to change the password as he/she is not the legitimate owner and will not have your password. I think either serial number in the registration would work - I hope so. Carl may be able to correct me if that's wrong. But if you forget the password, the procedure is that you'd call White's requesting the password, we'd then call you back to verify that you are the legitimate owner from the registration card on file and then give you the password.

Thank you AK 4R your reply , Mickfin
