Safari Ferrous Audio

reltolbert

New member
In 'Mastering the Quattro' book, it states by using Ferrous audio you can easily discern the
difference in sounds from a clad dime, silver dime or quarter making it easier to cherry pick
the keepers from an older site.
How is this possible?

From what I understand, and that ain't much, the ferrous tones will be different for items that may show up under the same number on conductivity tone.

So, in cond. tone, three items sound the same and display the same ID#.
Switch to ferr. tones, and the three items will sound different, helping you to discern what target you want to dig.

A practice garden with just such items in it,will help you learn how to recognize those tones.

I think.

acasto,
Yes, I think you are correct. The test garden is my best bet. I'm wondering if ferrous sound might be
better than conductive for finding those coins. I'll just have to practice and see which is best for
different situations. Getting ahead of myself since I won't have my new Safari till Monday.

If you go to the MLO TV website and watch the Safari Sounds Video, this I am sure will be a great help to you and all new Safari users.

Enjoy.

"How is this possible?" It's not.
My Safari is by far the best detector I have ever owned, but it can't do that. I can tell the difference between a zinc penny, penny, dime, and quarter with about 90% accuracy. But I can't tell a silver dime from a clad dime, too many variables.

Your Safari should have both conductivity tones and ferrous tones, but not at the same time.
You switch between them.
Because items that share a common conductivity #, may differ in their respective ferrous content #s, thereby giving you a recognizable tone pattern.
I didn't say you could tell the difference between a clad dime and a silver dime.
At least, thats what I think.

You can tell a slight difference if you are air testing with a silver dime and a clad dime but my experience out hunting I can't. But I hunt with conductive tones most of the time. I love ferrous sounds but not enough to take the time to retrain my ears. If you are just starting out on minelab machines I really think you would be better off using nothing but ferrous tones. It makes that silver & gold sound sweet. JMHO HH :minelab:

I have been using ferrous most of this week along the beach water line week at Corolla and switching between each program to see what would work best few targets near water line but 100 feet from water is just as junk filled as any place else in US and you have to use trash/disc.First off no loss of depth in any program I was digging dimes to 14 inches 8oz lead fishing sinkers to 22 inches with pro coil.I have scooped many hundreds of coins this week none old,Toy cars to 20 inches still were coming in good.Owned a lot of detectors in 30 years this is one great machine.I went back to conductive early in the week because I saw no advantage in ferrous.Bottle caps are so thick up in the sands away from beach that I had to hunt 18 and below disc out.I was calling everything I dug with 90% accuracy. There is a difference in tones between ferrous and conductive but since the depth penetration is the same learn one or the other and stick to it just my opinion.

This is one of many fresh water beaches I'll be hitting with my new Safari detector here
in North Idaho.

If you're beach hunting and knocking out signals from 6 to 18, you could be missing a lot of gold and platinum jewelry, like the $7,000+ platinum and diamond ring I found that hit at a solid 11. The Safari rocks for beach hunting!

psyvad,

I have to remember those numbers from 6 to 18. I definately want to find some gold or silver jewelry.
Thank you.

Prep1957 - Nice status report from the Outer Banks. Hope some jewelry finds it's way under you coil before heading home.
Looks like Regis has one of his new favorite sites picked out, once the safari arrives . We know you're stoked about it!

Those are some numbers I would not block out. Usually 6 is a really good number for me in my ground. Gold rings and a gold locket. But whatever works for someone to be successfull in their area is the name of the game. HH :minelab:

I was using all metal at water line and about one foot deep in water depending on wave action.Safari disc was right on learned that anything below -3 was junk.everything from -3 to +5 was small fishing items like barrel swivels stainless steel leaders, hooks etc, bobby pins.Away from water line 100 feet hundreds of new bottle caps were dropped each day thousands of bottle caps were everywhere and this is on private beach.Depending on beer cap brand most 95% were disc out at 16,17,18 I would also disc out zinc penny's they were almost as bad first day or two was fun after that I considered them junk most were getting to be in bad shape anyway.I may of only hunted about 25 hours all week I know I found several hundred dollars in clad dimes and quarters and gave a lot away to small beach trolls that followed me most days I was out. Those tarnished clads work great in all the vending machines at rest stops and at bait machines. To other family members were using safari when I was not they found more than I did. Had never used metal detector before.I did not find any jewelry but I found a 400 dollar pair of sunglasses gave them to nephew before I new what they were worth.Wednesday found out locals were hunting beach and about 3 feet into water late night to early morning talked to them awhile learned a lot for next time.Thursday put 6X8 SEF coil on detector arm sore from fishing I know most people will tell you that a small coil is not good for beach hunting but I wish I had that coil on day one started to find small backs of silver ear rings and really deep clad dimes pro coil missed. Two family members ordered safari's last Wednesday got home Sunday were waiting for them ordered from Cabela's.If you go to beach you really need to purchase the right tool buy a waterproof detector. If you use the safari at the beach you must break it down and clean each day.The locals will buy your lead sinkers and good fishing stuff from you.We had 41 lbs just in sinkers. The rings are there I saw 3 nice rings recovered by guy hunting chest high he earned it that is tough work.
