some help with pulltabs?

I have had an SE and recently got an Etrac......besides sound.....is there any way to pick out pulltabs from good stuff? ....Or do you just have to dig all 12-whatevers?

thanks

If you are saying (Good stuff) is gold, then yes you have to pretty much dig about all of them.
The reasoning is because jewelry and rings can vary soooooo much it is unreal.
The id can change according to the size of a ring, the material, carrot, and thickness.
I recently dug a small 10k gold ring that came in at 12-10,saw a class ring posted
that came in at 12-27,another at 12-21.
and i have dug pulltabs that came in at all of these!
So gold searching requires a lot of digging.
I recently spent about a week at the soccer field digging all low conductive signals.
i filled my pouch up,time and time again with junk and pulltabs.
but i feel that now when i go back sometime that i have a lot of the junk cleaned out and it will be
easier hunting!

I'm with LabradorBob......want to find the gold....gotta dig those tabs.......:rage:

The funny thing is, every once in a while you get rewarded with a nickel:rofl:

If you want to limit your pull tab to nickel ratio. Stick with 10 to 14 conductivity numbers. The beavertails will give you the most conistant 12-13/14 numbers. Every once in awhile so will some type of square pulltab.

Leave the 12 fer.14-29 con. numbers and the pulltab count will go way down.So will the gold and token count. If you are wanting to cherry pick silver just dig 10-13 fer. and 44-48 con.

The four gold rings I have dug this year (including one today) came in like this:

12-09/10
16-10
12-07/08
12-07/08

All these signals were pretty solid and most of the rings were about 3 inches or less.

Note: I generally don't dig the average pulltab signals from 12-14 through 12-36. I'm sure I may have passed over a few larger gold rings.

That's been my experience. I'd be happy to hear some numbers for the gold the rest of you have dug.

only found 2 this year so far. 12/15 and 12/10. Both were solid in all directions. Of course I've dug my fair share of pull tabs in the process! :rage:

Just found a gold ring last night in two tone ferrous. Came in at solid 12/21; 12/21; 12/21
I'll post the picture.

Thanks all for your comments!

I kinda figured as much......I dont have any trouble finding nickels, as the tone is good and usually locks on no problem. I like the etrac better for locking on targets rather than the SE.

I like the etrac for depth, balance etc but the v3i works better for me on cluing me on on whats good and whats junk. I have a 80-90 percent success rate when using the v3i. I have had lots of detectors and wanted to just have 1 detector. It doesnt look like that is possible so I going to keep the v3i and the etrac. I am pretty confident that I can find most anything to a good degee of sucess with those 2 units. Someday I hope theres a E3...half etrac and half v3i. Maybe I can use duct tape on the two detectors????:twodetecting:

Try using 2 tones - normal. When you pass over pubtap etrac response with double bip due to the ring type of the pultab.

One more thing I might add. If you are finding that a certian type/shape of pulltab is being dug allot and the NO ID keeps hitting that pulltab then I suggest you disc out that particular tab. This I will do if I am getting tired and P'Od and want to give some limits to the digs. It wont matter too much as you will most likely still find lots of other pull tabs but how many rings can be exactly the same on that stretch? I dont do this often but once in while after the fresh start goes into a long drag out dig I will give in to reality and start using more disc. I have disc out 3 types of tabs that kept comming in. Even then I dig lots of others but It will calm things down a bit for me on really heavy trash areas when I get tired and it has worked for me at the freash water beaches I hunt.

good luck

thanks again for the tips.....I have experienced some double blips that help me weed them out.

I try to not to use much disc as I might miss something good but goes with the territory...I guess

I appreciate the info!!!!
