Some Jingle

A couple of years back while deer hunting on the plains here in Montana I came across a old horseshoe sticking out of the ground. Upon further investigation, ie, looking on the ground, it appeared an old homestead was built on the ground. The next spring and the following springs I have made a trip back there hoping to find some treasure. It appeared that eventually the old building were burned down. This is prairie so not much overburden over the top of anything. Pics are of some treasure found. Bells are from some horse harness and the button is US Cavalry button. Date unknown by me. I think early 1900's. I took 3 of the bells and polished them up with my bench wheels. Only a treasure to me. :| Enjoy!

Very neat finds Marlowe! The bells sure cleaned up nicely...I don't think it'd bother me a bit to polish them at all! Thanks for the pictures.

Well Moose the site has produced a lot of horse harness type stuff, buckles, bridle bits, etc. One thing noticeable is the lack of alum. junk. Not alot of pull tabs in the early 1900's. :| Found some old brass rifle cases. Horse shoes, but no coins. Like my friend said, "Hell in them times nobody had any money". He might be right I guess. I always go back in the spring until the prairie grass gets too long or the rancher puts the cows out there for summer pasture. I might add it is very peaceful detecting out there. Absolutely no man noise what so ever. Just the sound of the etrac beeping and the birds.

Just trying to figure out what to do with the bells now.

It sounds to me Marlowe as if you have found serenity.. I myself find more interesting profiles of the place of existence with the finds for the day. In other words, this site might not have been well to do, but did well too do. The treasures you pulled may have been what they treasured. Not so much in the expendables but the time's well spent.

Nice finds and thanks for sharing,

Moose
