Some Silver and Other Goodies

54shooter

New member
Went on some short hunts at a old 1840's church where I found my very first silver coin, a 1838 seated dime.:clapping: Since then I'm only finding newer stuff and can't seem to find anything to fill the gap in the middle. I got a 42 merc and two rosies, 60 and 64.:clapping: It's a pretty trashy area that I'm trying to hunt in TTF and I was glad to do a lot of digging as I needed it to keep from freezing. I sure seem to dig a lot of nails with my etrac.:nopity: Although I'm finally starting to dig some better stuff to. I haven't seen one of these posted before it's a small pencil sharpener like the plastic ones we all have used but this one is brass I believe and it's heavy for it's size. Does anyone know about these and about how old it might be?I also found a battery post connector that had about a 3/8" post. I've never seen a battery with such a small post. I think I'm slowly figuring out TTF, It's tougher than I thought!!:nerd: Thanks Everyone for looking and Good Luck!!:detecting:

Congrats on some great finds, not sure why you think TTF is hard, I find it very simple, what problem are u having?

Hi Terry,
Well it seems like every low grunt I get I also hear a high tone. Maybe the ground is that trashy, as a matter of fact there is a fairly large area where there was a burn pile but after I figured that one out I stay away from it. I try and do what you said by working my way around a high tone and get the best I can before I try and pinpoint. I don't have much trouble pinpointing I use the wiggle and pull the coil to me thing, I hardly ever use the pinpoint function. There have been times that I think I got something and just dig up nails. One time I dug 11 nails out of a hole before I gave up on it. Will bent nails or so many that close together cause the machine to false? Maybe I'm giving up on the high tones to easily. It just seems like I shouldn't be getting as many high tones as I'm getting. It seems like I get a high tone almost every time I get a low iron grunt. Anyway I am starting to find more in TTF. I have only found a couple coins in TTF and only one silver coin. That could be because I haven't got the coil over any. I hate to think that I'm missing coins because I'm not understanding what I'm hearing. I just got some sun-ray gold pro's so maybe that will help. Does all this tell you anything I'm doing wrong?

Tony,

yes bent nails can be a real pain and can be foolers, the best thing you can do it turn 90 degrees re-check the signal. If your still getting a high tone while in TTF, then by all means dig. Of course a smaller coil will def help you out as well. In TTF going SLOW and I mean slow is very important if the iron is intense, use a 100% open screen so you get zero nulls.

Sometimes when I begin to swing too fast I start getting chirps and high tones, I think this is what your getting, slow down your swing to literally 4 seconds and I bet your problem will go away. Let me know

Terry

Congratulations on some very nice finds! Work with your swing speed as Terry says, and most of the "foolers" won't be such a pain after a while!

Thanks for the pictures.

Nice finds !

Very nice finds. I would dig nails all day long if I could find several silvers. I just started using TTF and I dig a lot of junk. I am getting better at learning what the Etrac is telling me, but the last Indian I dug was surrounded by nails. I have had several do what you described. After a while you will be able to tell that it is iron causing the falsing. A thing I have started doing after using TTF is I dig a signal that I pretty much know is junk. I try and guess what it is before I dig it just to see if I a right. It seems to help me. Don't get discouraged. I also went to YouTube and searched Etrac TTF. There are several good videos including a couple from G4E that show signals from TTF. They helped me a lot. Another thing, I used the stock coil at first, but now use an 8 inch coil. I use the sunray X8, but here the 6x8 is a great coil also. God luck with your hunting. And keep using TTF. It has turned a hunted out park into new ground.
