Sov XS shows the light of day to a 101 yr old Merc!

The heat wave finally broke in upstate NY so I headed down to my favorite Hudson River bank site to look for ANY kind of silver or old copper.
Turns out I wasn't disappointed! The ole' Sov almost ALWAYS comes through for me, even after 25 years of hunting this site. It is easily the toughest matrix of sand I have ever hunted: loaded with brick, rocks, coke and IRON everywhere. The odds were against me with the 12X13 NEL Tornado coil in this mess but I still managed the Merc, a 1965 memorial and an old key as well as the usual 22 shell casings, the occasional bullet and lead scraps.
I use this Sov XS exclusively now and it's the only detector I care to own. I have never been able to mesh with the digital offerings out there. I think the biggest reason why is because I would waste so much time making adjustments and looking at a meter. I hunt strictly by sound and the Sov's language is 2nd to none! HH, George

I figured you would be back using the Sovereign and sure enough you are again. its hard to use anything once you know how well the Sovereign can get the good signals other detectors walk over, nice to try others, but I too always come back to my Sovereigns as well as it works. Too bad they are no longer being made as I would have like to see with some improvement in the weight as that was one of the only draw backs.

Man I agree. On the beach it is a beep and dig. No numbers nothing to adjust. Hear it dig it. Every hunter has the new super deluxe Manticore where I hunt. Had one sold one! guess I'm just an ole fart use to my old sov, but I love using it. Tremendous depth and quiet. Using a Nel 15 incher now. Gonna have to hire some kid to do my digging soon...lol Bob

The Sovereigns are a true turn on and go detector, not a lot of controls to mess with. I use the same setting 90% of the time and adjust my sensitivity rarely as I just swing slower and listen closer as I run a slight threshold.
Since I learned the Sovereign I have tried other detectors and with all the controls never could find the goodies I could with my Sovereigns. Some of my friends have the Equinox and some swear by the E-trac and I will say they do good, but I have seen them digging more because of the iffy signal they get were I have dig less as I found with my Sovereigns with my 180 meter it is more accurate, but there is time those deeper signals are dug as the Sovereign cant get a good signal, but can tell it wants to.
I may be done detecting, not that I want too as at 76 I wear out too fast and try every once in a while I try, last couple of times I lasted for about 10 minutes before I was wore out and couldnt walk and balance very good. I will be seeing my Dr in the morning for my heart checkup as I had a triple bypass and 2 heart attacks pluss had to have both knees replaced at one time (too many digging on my knees). I am not giving up yet, but I also want to be around yet so I have to be careful now.
