swingy thing

I am now planning some hunts that very well can be at least eight hours or more in duration.
Several posting requirements indicate the need for a "swingy thing".
Anyone out there know anything about the "swingy thing" and if it does help when
you are detecting over long periods of time.
Also, any particular "swingy thing" to recommend? And where to purchase?
Since it is cold and the ground is frozen my mind is making plans and counting days.

I have used one for years. Got mine from the docsdetecting site. It extends my hunt time several fold. I absolutely don't leave home without it.

Yes they do a great job of taking the weight off the arm. I have a friend that goes to England for 2 weeks every year and 2 weeks to Alaska and he uses the swingy thing all the time even on the xterra 70. I used it and will probably use it again this summer. I use one with the much heavier minelab gold machines and it is a must. It works great!
The only problem I have found is it puts all the weight on your shoulder right next to your neck, which can create soreness. With the gold machines there is an attachment called a hip stick that attaches to your belt that then transfers all the weight back to your waist. Good luck!
But worth the money for long hunts.

I made my from things I already had in the basement - total cost = $0.00

I tie wrapped one of those short solid black rubber bungee cords to the upper shaft near the control box. - I keep it coiled up around the shaft and held in place with a rubber band when not in use.

Found two opening 1 1/2" dia split rings - two carabiners - and a padded & adjustable shoulder strap with a from one of those aluminum attache cases I bought on eBay a few years ago.

Put the bungee cord in a vise - bend and remove the two steel hooks - put one of the metal split rings in each end of the bungee cord where the original steel hooks were - hook up a carabiner to each of the rings on the end of the bungee cord - one end to the machine - and one end gets thrown over my shoulder and clipped on my pants belt loop.
It works very well - hooks up in two miniutes - it's small so it's easy to carry with you all the time - and it was free.

Thank you for all your replays and suggestions.
These comments helped convince my detecting buddy and
husband that the/a swingy thing is a necessity.
Ive had some issues with my hands in the recent past and arm fatigue after lengthy hunts.
The swingy thing seemed to good to be true but your help says it all.

For me the swingy thingy is just OK.
I don't bother with it in places that require a slow tight swing..
I simply shorten my lower rod and hover over the detector with short swings.
At the beach where I have to walk a lot more and lengthen my swings I deal with
the swingy thingy,,,,, BUT I only use the bungee. I have a backpack that I sewed
O-rings on and clip it to the backpack. Otherwise I can't stand the WEDGE-E and the
not so fun to adjust straps it comes with.
If your old, get one. If you want to last a few more hours before your arm
falls off from the heavy machine, get one. If you want light weight detectors.... GET SOMETHING ELSE!!!
