Well, as far as coins go. Decided to get out today for a couple of hrs. First time in about a month. We went to a park that was probably built some time around the 1940s. And guess what the old man just happened to find?? A large cent!!!! First one he has ever found in almost 20 yr of MDing. Said he almost didn't dig it because it was so close to a swingset pole and the ground was as hard as a rock. It was about 5 in. down. Now as you will see from the photo, it is severely corroded. So severely corroded in fact, that not only can you not make out any of the date, but you can also only faintly see details. The only word that is actually readable, at least to me, is the word "cent". Well, I guess that's what happens when a coin spends over 100+ yr in the ground. What I want to know is how it got there.
Also would like to know if it would be a good idea to clean it and how to clean. We were thinking about the electric method. Good, bad idea??
Other finds of the day:
Dads:
$5.00
3 toy cars
Putt Putt token from 1981
Large cent
3 wheaties
Me:
$5.21
toy airplane
Panama penny
wheatie
First 2 pics are of large cent. 3rd pic is of token. 4th of wheaties. 5th of toy cars.
