The soul

Neil, Theres a lot of people out there way smarter than you or I that strongly believe Jesus is Lord, and there are a lot of very smart people out there that strongly believe He is not. Theres a lot of people out there who were not brought up in any Faith that believe He is, and theres a lot that were raised in religious households that believe he aint. Both groups could argue their position effectively. Sometimes God makes himself clearly evident to some folks, and sometimes he dont...Theres nothing wrong with living a life with a spiritual purpose. God or not, chances are your life will be the better for it, as the tenants and teachings help people from getting themselves into Life's general forms of trouble. If you feel some sort of urging to research this mystery, good! You are at least questioning and not just blindly following somebody elses understanding of the whole thing...I wish you well on your search!

I wish I could answer your questions for you but I can't. In my opinion you are asking a question no one can answer. Things are never clear and that is where Faith comes in.

Thanks for asking the questions though I have learned a lot from everyone's input here.

Niel your awesome,

This may be a good explanation for the present but what about all those people that have died in the past not knowing of God?These people never had the choice of accepting or rejecting eternal life so what happened to them? Also nobody has answered the question of the soul with regards to the example I gave.

Neil are you talking about the people that have died prior to Christs' death and resurrection.
That's a great question!

Hope this is helpful! George

Amen Brother,, broadestpower,, enjoying the comments,,,

(Can somebody explain the concept of us each having a soul and how it affects us.I believe that when we are born each of us is like an empty computer that is programmed by all aspects of social interaction.......if this is so where does the soul fit into the equation.)

Neil,

Based on your question above how your soul affects you?

I would have to say it depends how you treat your soul!
Your mouth speaks what your heart is filled with.

Example: Have you ever taken a hammer pounded a nail into a surface and
suddenly missed! Your going to know within seconds whats in your heart by
what's about to fly out of your mouth at that moment of pain. Your eyes and
ears are the windows to your soul so what you take in fills you. If you stay in the
word and meditate on it then bad is pushed out by the Living Word of God. Thank
God that His Word is the only living Word and only by this that we are cleansed!

"Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word...
Thy word have I hid in mine heart that I might not sin against thee." Psalms 119:9&11

Man George! When I was just a new Christian, I was trying to live right and get myself and vocabulary under control..bout 20 years ago I guess..Me and a guy I worked with knew I was a Christian, but he was not, had to drive a pin out of a earthmover in the field...he had only one arm, and he said, "Do you want to hold the drift, or swing the hammer?" I said, "I'll hold the drift, since you only got one arm and all" So he ups and takes a mighty swing with a 5lb maul and hits me squarely on the back of my knuckles! I just took a long inhale...he said in amazement, "Man, that had to hurt, and you didn't even swear!" I said, "Not on the outside anyway!"

Neil,

Are we blank slates for the world to fill? No!
The Bible says in King James 2000 Bible (

I could feel the pain as you explained the incident. Here's
how I correlate it, the closer your walk is at the time of your
accident is what will be transferred at that time. I have to say
I've made God proud in this area and I'm sure I've let Him down
also, but I'm sure He knew what was about to come out of my
mouth based on the time I had recently spent with Him. All God
really wants from our free will is fellowship with His children.

Amen!

There are lots of good quotes from the bible here but none really answer the question I posed concerning the example I gave. The scholers who were responsible for writing the holy scriptures would not have had access to the scientific knowledge we now posess so I believe we can no longer just keep taking quotes from the bible and accepting them as the one and only truth. As we all know, science and knowledge continues to give us a new understanding of our universe and it is often the case that this understanding is in conflict with what is said in the bible. This is why I am asking all these questions and why at the moment I am neither a believer or a non believer. One thing I am certain of though is that if I came to the conclusion that there was no God and I was wrong,God would not punish me just for thinking this way....this would not be the action of an all loving and forgiving entity.God is the one who has given mankind the ability to think for himself,to make mistakes and then learn from them and correct them.If I make the mistake of not believing in him and in fact he truly exists,i believe he would allow me to correct my mistakes in his kingdom......mistakes that are not made out of malice but the innocent mistake of an inquisitive mind....for he gave me the ability to be inquisitive.

does give us the choice to do either His way or your way. Your way is not desireable. Either you believe the first sentence of the Bible or you dont. Steve in so az

Very constructive.....thanks.Up until now I was enjoying what people were saying and even learning to approach the subject from different perspectives.I suppose I was just waiting for a comment like this....it is the sort of tripe that puts people off trying to understand religion especially when you are told that your way of thinking is undesirable.Anyway, thanks to all those that have taken the time to respond and I hope you all have a peaceful new year.
Neil.

If you live your life like there is no GOD and you die and there is you will not go to heaven . If you live your life like there is a GOD and there is not you have not lost anything. I can tell you from my personal experience that there is a GOD. GOD is a loving GOD but he gets real angry also , we should fear him not think he will look over evrything we think or do. Steve in Az is right you can not just believe part of the bible. You can not pck and choose what you want to believe out of it just to make you happy. Sorry you feel the way you do but GOD is real I could tell you several things that GOD has done in my life but people would probaly not believe me and it would take along time to type. You just have to tell GOD that here you are show me and use me the way you want and actually let him use you and you will be amzed at his power. He will do things in your life that you would have thought that was never possible. I beg you please keep searching for why GOD is real and do not get mad at us and get discouraged I want to be in heaven with all of you some day. Stick around Nauti Neil we do care about you .

In regard to what 7centsworth just said Nauti Niel,
Jesus loves you, and we care, you are worth so much
to God and that would be why He encourages us to re-
main steadfast. Personal note, I was a new believer in
Christ and I was amazed by the Love that our assistant
pastor showed toward everyone. Other than my earthly dad
I never had a man tell me he loved me nor wood I encourage
that lol. This brother would look you square in the eyes and
tell you, I love you brother and you felt the sincerity of this
gesture. So in this act of compassion I could honestly say I
would never forget this man, for he portrayed to me what
Jesus would say greeting or leaving a believer and left me
in awe of his walk and character.
For a guy may portrait love in different ways and will be more comfortable doing so.
Even as Christians we constantly battle the flesh, or our own
sinful nature. So in saying this you may not get many chances in
life to see the true nature of God revealed in man. So if a man tells
you he loves you for all the right reasons, then he truly has the heart
of God and your best intentions in mind.

Neil, I feel you in the right place and I know that God has placed you here for a reason.
There are many here who care and find more satisfaction in the treasure of you and what
you are worth to God than detecting that gold ring or silver coin. As long as your willing to
hang out we'll do our best to answer any questions. I just pray that God would continue feed
the fire that is now glowing in your heart. May you receive exactly what your heart yearns for bit
by bit in every response from every believer that posts replies. May God richly bless you and yours
and watch over and protect you in 2013 In Jesus' precious name I pray. George

I'm listening to a band that once, about 8 years ago, inspired me to think of a plausible way to be able to project and interact with our conscious and subconscious minds into a virtual simulation of the cognitive experiences that take place(only in our skulls)--think mapping of language, and subsequently thought, by EEG, and then projection, via coding, into a graphical simulation. I envisioned a world in which we as human could interact with our deepest desires, thoughts, passions, and curiosities to the point where questions that have plagued humanity over thousands of years could be surely answered...a world where people would stop killing each other over who's God was the right one(I used to hold the belief that all regions had some awesome tenets, but all fell short when the accusations started),

I was agnostic for the longest(at least the past 15 years...I'll be 30 this year).

I'm a Christian now(2012).

For the longest time I had problems with the arrogance of a good bit of Christians. I still do, actually. While the Bible teaches us, and gives us guidance, a good bit of Christians these days throw Christ in peoples faces without acknowledging the fact that while death transcends us all, intelligence has been growing exponentially for the past 2,000 years. People are naturally inquisitive, and it's not fair to say that having questions about one's faith means that you're wrong. Bible quotes don't answer every question that non believers or questioners have, nor do proclamations of right and wrong.

While some Christians understand this, and lead as the Shepherd did, a good bit of us seem to feel self righteousness is right. Coming from a position in life in which I lived my life *modeled around Christ's*, treating others as he would, but simply not believing him to be the Saviour, and being HARSHLY criticized all around by Christians around me, I somewhat understand what Neil is saying. He has questions. All of us do. Some of us give up on the inquisitiveness and are able to accept faith more easily. But for some of us, curiosity comes as second nature. I still have questions about my existence, and the presence of humanity, and God, and eternity. I accept Christ as having died for my sins, and as the Father incarnate. But I am still alive, and just because I question does not mean that I am sinning.

JWebs,
You know, because you have knowledge, and knowledge is obtained by asking questions.
So how do you obtain that a question is in someway related to sin! The Bible says all have sinned
and fall short of the glory of God. It dosen't state all have asked questions and fall short of the glory
of God. There couldn't be a better way of weighing the positives and negatives of any given circumstances
than to ask questions. Better than knowledge though, is wisdom. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of Wisdom
Your right, Bible quotes may not be able to feed each of us the same. A fellow brother asked me once, hey you
still go to Faith Living, and I said yes, but I don't like the way they state this or that. He came back with the perfect
quote, we all have to be fed. Some people leave certain churches because they feel they are not being fed spiritually.
The brother said it's a good church you have to eat the meat and throw away the bones. You'll never find perfection in
man and that is why we shouldn't rest on the competency of and individual, but seek God while he may be found.

Love you brother, and I am glad that you are His!

Neil,

Try not to be overcome with negative, based on a single abrasive comment.
Every bodies needs are different, but I would have to say most people respond
favorably to a God of Love rather than a God of wrath, or say fire a brimstone. I pray
that you would continue to ask questions, and would continue to seek God and
all His righteousness, and that you and your family would be richly blessed by
His presents.

God Bless, Gerorge

Thanks George, don't worry I will be continuing on my quest. Thanks for the link answersingenisis, I found this quite interesting but many of the theories fairly weak.....especially those on the age of the earth and the size of the universe. We can tell that the age of the earth is greater than 6000 years by observing processes that are still ongoing. For example, the measurement of antartic ice cores. Each year certain measured areas in antartica will gain a two centimeter layer of ice and this goes on year after year which makes measuring the age of an area of ice very easy.Scientists use a core drill that goes extremely deep and extracts a solid ice tube known as a plug or core. Each two centimeter layer of ice(representing one year)is easy to determine because they are seperated by a very distinguishable srata in the ice.The longest core so far extracted measures 1.9 miles which equates to an age of 740,000 years. The same can be seen in silt deposits that are still being laid today.....and some of these go back millions of years. As for the size of the universe,we have deep space probes that are travelling away from the earth, some of these have been travelling for years and are millions of miles away and still going. As technology advances further the probes will travel further and the proof will be there for all to see just how big the universe is.Voyager 1 has been travelling for over 20 years and covered 6.4 billion miles so far......thats quite a big universe.
