This mornings hunt...finally got 1!!!!

I returned to the scene of yesterdays hunt and while targets weren't plentiful, I did get a silver. I had felt for some time that it was just a matter of time before one of my hunting buddies or myself dug a Seated coin from this site and this morning I got one, a 1840o dime. That is my oldest silver coin. Quite frankly, there wasn't much about the signal, vdi or tone(s) wise that was all that great, but it was just enough tone wise to trigger me to dig in light of that I knew it was deep and the area has the history and age to yield old coins. When I hit it, I got a high tone tic mixed with the occasional mid tone and readings from 67 to 88. From two directions, though, I was getting the high tone tic, so finally decided to dig it. As close as I can tell, it was all of 9." I was using a Wilcox 15" long digger with a 6" x 2" blade and the digger was at the 8" mark I had notched on the handle when I began probing with the Pro pin pointer. The scratches on the coin weren't done by me as when the pin pointer signaled the targets was in the center of the hole and I dug the rest of the dirt out by hand and the dirt was hard and packed and at least an inch more deep. Besides the clad and other targets, got 2 wheat cents, a 49 and a 16d. Swinging the F 75 LTD with 11dd coil and running in bp mode, disc 0, sen 85, 3h tones and gb of 64. HH jim tn

Smokin find..............I know the elation your feeling.......I was lucky enough to find a seated last year. Happy for ya!!!!

Good write up too...that will teach me to walk away from a half way decent signal that could be a bottlecap...note to self, check depth, when in doubt, dig...

Nice digs and good story. Love that coin. CCH

hope it dries up soon.

Jim, Good going on the seated. That is still one of my major goals, to find a "seated". Im going soon to where I got my 1892 barber dime, thinking oh by one year, Im missing a seated. Ive used the F70 there wide open, Ill think Ill try the F75 LTD, with it full throttle. Today found one of those giant, imitation , 3" wide flying eagle cents, 1856- thought for sure when I started seeing the eagle, I had a belt buckle. I wonder if it was used for a beer coaster. Good Hunts, CO

Great find Jim, congratulations.---Seateds don't show up very often.---I've never found one that old.----Thanks for sharing the story also.---------Del

Thanks guys! Got another silver dime this morning, but it being 124 years newer then the Seated, digging it was almost anti-climatic. Yesterdays Seated was actually my 3rd Seated in my nearly 40 years of detecting. Getting one from that particular site "finally" is what I meant. I know there is more there, too. Everyone have a great weekend and take your kids mother hunting. Maybe she will dig your holes for you. Mothers, have a happy mothers day. HH jim tn

What a perfect write up! With very good photos and every question that comes to mind answered, the only thing better would be to have video of the whole find! So far I have not found anything a century old, but I have probably walked over a few! You give me encouragement to keep trying and faith that it will happen.
Thanks, Jim- HH and continued good luck!
Tom
