I was searching a big park near here when I got this deep, large signal that registered a solid 24. I dug down about 8-10" and the target was still in the hole. I was sure it was a piece of trash, and did the dumbest thing possible. Why do I keep doing something when my brain is telling me, don't do that. I took my knife and plunged it through the dirt at the bottom of the hole a couple of times and could feel it hit and pass through something further confirming my belief that it was a piece of trash, most likely a soda can.

Fillederin and left.

Came back a while later because I just couldn't stand not knowing what it was. Dropped a monster plug and pulled this crumpled piece of aluminum(?) out of the ground. Unfolded it a bit and cleaned out the dirt and you can see what it is. . . a condom case! That's my guess, at least. You can see where my knife runneth through:^(

Can anyone confirm my identification? Any ideas on age?

We've had a lot of rain here, and the hunting is good. Gotta try it to find it.

They won't be any good now after putting that knife through the case. :rofl:
 
Yep, condom case. I found one like that last year. In good shape with the top and bottom they go for around $50.00.
 
Seriously, I believe they were marketed as re-usable.:unsure:
 
You have one of the last ones they made and sold for $1. The first ones cost 50 cents which was a lot in the 1900's when they were made, and they WERE made to be reused. The names of the widows are on the lid of the original container were AGNES, MABEL, and BECKIE, the manufacturers. I don't have any dates for them though but a google might be informative.
 
I found one this year too. It's a little different than yours though, it didn't have the price on it. The front is flowery fancy. I put it up on my first 100 finds video on YouTube. Sorry the picture is so blurry. The top and bottom were in two separate spots about 6ft apart. Must've been in a hurry?

Not sure on the years on the containers, but this looks like a later version being the price is marked at $1. I have found several over the years and most had the Merry Widow and the names. Becky, Agnes, and Mabel on them and see this one does not. I think one of the ones I found said $.50 on it and thought i seen a picture of one that showed $.25 and was said to go back into the 30s.
What has shocked me with them as most of the ones I have found where at some church sites with a few in back yards of some houses.
Nice piece of history you have there .
