Torn between E-TRAC an V3

Just look at the finds posted on both forum sections and your decision will be easy. And to make it fair go back and look at the first 6 months posts for each machine. While most of the V3 folks were discussing all the great combination of settings and the colored meter the E-Trac folks were going out and finding a ton of good stuff from their previously hammered sites.I bought one of the Visions with wireless phones and gave it a good test and it just came up short compared to my E-Trac.I liked it and it was a cool piece of high tech equipment but just did not produce as well for me in my trashy sites that have been hit hard by myself and many others for the last 30 plus years,Ray.

Hey Ray,

Thanks for the input, I have noticed that on the forums, seems to be better "finds" with e-trac and since you used both i appreciate the help. I had a demo from a dealer but he was not real versed with it. I've been using my eagle spectrum since 1993
I'm starting to get back into it !

Ray,
I just noticed the minelabs seem to have slower recovery and you have to slow down. Looking for that "added depth" advantage !

Go back to 12/12/09 and you will find the forum has already hit this one hard. I too am a past White's guy. 25 years of White's detectors. I tell you what, i have a new passion for treasure hunting now due to the Etrac. Yes a slight learning curve although the V3 has one too being a new machine for people, but with that said my finds have atleast doubled with the Etrac.......Wait a minute what am I saying no no no get the V3, we etrac'ers want more v3's so our finds will keep coming.

No, the E-Trac has a much faster recovery, yet allows you move the coil at a snails pace. This is why the E-Trac is capable of pulling coins from next to and underneith iron.

I am an avid E-Trac user who tried the V3 for about 10 minutes. I couldn't handle the sound of the V3 after using the E-Trac with its "fluty" sounds.
Go E-Trac.

Funny,
Yea i just keep reading and seeing all these great finds. I was a little concerned about the learning curve. I guess you do have to move slower with them right ?

Yea ,
I first looked at the Safari and had a demo and it did make a lot of different tones and "fluty" but to be honest that's my biggest worry with the minelab is will i like or get used to so many sound versus the vdi and graphs on my Whites . I'm leaning towards the E-trac and appreciate every ones input tonight !! The E-trac is different in the tones versus the Safari right ?

Hi DD,
I was like you, the Vision, now V-3 or the E-Trac.
I have 2 friends that bought the Visions back in April of last year.
The one guy, his first unit was not right, so they gave him another Vision, but 2 coils were bad, so his 3 rd coil was good.
He hunted with another friend that had a E-Trac and they did some hunting in old hunted out parks.
The E Trac was all ways doing better than the Vision, then in Oct. he bought a E Trac and liked it so much, he sold the Vision.
And last I heard he had found over 30 silver coins in these hunted out parks.
There was a 3rd guy that hunted with them using a MXT, he to got a E Trac.
That was enough for me, I got a E Trac and I think this is the best unit for me.
As soon as it warms up and the snow is gone, I will be back out there.
I have only got to use my ET 2 times and did good with it.
Whites has a up grade for the Visions and V-3 in the soft ware..and that may make them a little better, but there are just to many adjustments for me in the V-3.
Good luck.
BJ

Just because there is snow on the ground, unless it's really deep, dress warmly and go out and listen to your machine some more. Don't even take a digging tool. Just walk around and listen and try to understand what it is you are hearing. I did that a few times when the ground was frozen and not only was it fun to get out with the machine, I learned some things about slowly moving the coil and trying to separate 'iffy' targets from bad targets. Jim

if to start with your worried about the multitone being too much you can select between 1, 2 ,4 or multitone, comming from an exporer i went straight multi with no problems but i do know of people that use 4 tones

I have had the E-Trac since Oct. 2008. The very first coin found was a Barber Quarter, The next day a Large Cent and a Union General Service Vest Button. The finds have not stopped coming since. Now, I have been detecting since 1968 when I was 15 years old. This is the best machine I have ever used. I found a 1862 $1.00 Gold Coin in March last year at the First Blue & Gray Hunt that had a Knap Sack Rivet stuck up against it. The Learning Curve is nill Turn it on, Noise cancel and start digging all signals that fall on the 12 line. You will be surprised how may deep old coins & relics you will start to find. Also get the book Explorers & E-Trac by Andy Sabach and you will see the first two days finds in the Photo section. Happy Hunting and good luck in2010...Jesse.

Here's a link of in reference to the same question you are asking. Maybe it will help with your decision as well.

Once you go E-Trac you won't go back:twodetecting:

Good Luck and HH

It is quite fast if you want to swing it fast in the less trashy areas and trust me nobody like to move faster than I do when I can.On the other hand you can get in the trashiest sites possible and pull good masked targets that most if not all other machines pass right over when you go fairly slow.Just do not fall for the hogwash that states you must crawl along at a snails pace to be very effective with an E-Trac,Ray.

I only have only been seriously involved in this hobby for 5 months - so I don't feel that I'm qualified to give you an opinion on which machine is the best.
But I had a very experienced - long time treasure hunter - that owns both the E-Trac and the V3 tell me ...

"The V3 was a great idea - that just didn't work out".

Good Luck ! --- Mark

Glad I m ade the choice to get an E-trac. My local dealer said that was my best bet if I was going to get serious, and by the looks of it it was a good choice.

lmao thanks i just posted the same request for info and since you have used both machines you have leaned me towards the e-trac
