Trying to like the F75LTD!!!

Well I went out on my second hunt today w/ my F75. Its going to be a long adjustment to it. I have read numerous times to give it a chance, but man I hate all the chirps, beeps, and false signals. I can turn sens down to around 50-60 but Im afraid its not up to its full potential and I could use another quite detector at max if Im going to run the F75 at not full power. Anyway I just wanted to vent. Im going to keep using it for now.I dont know what else I would buy if I got rid of it!!

Dont' be concerned with running the F 75 a little tamer, like factory pre set modes, for several outings. At a sen of 60 it still gets great depth and affords one the chance to slowly get used to the tic's and snaps from whats under the coil. It is a very sensitive detector, but that translates into more target information. It's a great detector, just ease into it a little slower. Good luck. HH jim tn

Play with the discrimination a little.............that will help with the pops and clicks............If I might suggest..use two tones..till you get more accustom to the targets.
The LTD is seeing targets you never knew were in the ground with other detectors. A good clean sweep shoulder to shoulder will tame some of the noise.

Thanks guys \. Ive been running it in both the De and BP mode w/ the 2 tones .On the all metals mode its not doing the dual tone is that normal?

I walked in those shoes this past spring. Keep it down to 50-60 sens for 40 hrs and have a positive mind-set. It will come around.

You will actually lose depth with sensitivity too high, think of it much like turning on your bright lights in the fog. Sensitivity amplifies the ground noise as well as a weak, deep target signal and at a certain point, the amplified ground noise is louder than the deep target defeating the purpose of turning up the Sensitivity or Gain on some detectors.

Now this makes sense, very well stated.

I have the exp2, similar to e-trac. When I ran side-by-side comparisons in "my" soil and test patch, the F75 opened my eyes ...I dug 14 (non coin) non ferrous (cool) targets 9 of which the exp2 didnt "see", and the other 5 it was able to eek out once marked by the 75, in less than 30 mins. At that time I had less than 40 Hrs on the F75 and well over 1000 Hrs on FBS machines .
The site I selected was a site dating back to 1830's. Stage stop, P.O.,meeting house.... Ive had unlimited solo permission for it since '04, and have beat it with more machines than I care to recall. The two tectors compliment each other very well. HH

That is normal..In all metal your hitting all targets with single tone. You may be better served to use disc mode while learning the F75... take out a little iron, and go from there. My post above assumed
you were using the disc mode.

You will not miss any good targets with the discrimination mode found in parks etc..Now if your relic hunting by all means switch to the all Metal.I myself like the 3 tone..in disc.
De mode is the standard hunt mode. Bp will give you more depth, but is designed more for tall grass hunting.

If your using BP mode on the short grass, and or bare dirt..you will get some feedback from the ground. Go to fast grab GB..get that setting..Then go to manual GB and set it manually 2 numbers higher Then return to disc mode for hunting. This will allow the machine to overlook the subtle changes in the ground ( minerals)..allowing you to hunt quieter....

The LTD is a very powerful detector.............. I can not stress enough..you are going to hear TARGETS you will not hear with other detectors. It is so fast on reset after detecting a target is sees the next target inches from your last response.

Got a tip from a fellow member here on the forum. He advised me to run on DE/Disc 12/Notch 1/ 2F/ Sens 80. I tried this today and it was like a different machine. I was able to run on BP/Disc 10/Notch 1/2F/Sens 85 with no problem where i was hunting. I dug my first Barber quarter is was a 1898. Thanks so much I think I will be keeping it.

it is quite a powerful machine. sometimes I will find a very small piece of something, I mean like the size of a sunflower or sesame seed, really quite deep. While Im first usually perturbed, I usually finish with, more like in awe, man it found something that small, that deep? Its amazing. Im thinking it aint gonna miss some good coin on edge, etc if it can hone in that sharply. Give it time. CO

I have run considerable testing with my LTD and Etrac over common targets in my test bed and can state with certainty that my LTD is equally deep at low sensitivities (= quiet) compared to the Etrac running at semi-auto +3. The Etrac can be pushed a little more in full manual mode but the high-tone iron falsing will kill 'ya.

I love running the LTD in CL mode at extremely low sensitivies... always less than 30. Try it; you'll get another Fisher education!

My ground balance numbers run around 55-60. How much sensitivity can I lower before my depth is affected? If that is a legit question!! Should I run my sens as high as possible until the instability starts?

Sure, that is standard procedure. Run your sensitivity as high as you can as long as you have stability.

I had been considering the CL mode at a few sites, when I get that way. I wasnt sure of the the sens setting to use, but Ill start off under 30 :) Do you find the ID runs similar to BP?

I have had my f75 se for over a year and sometimes all the noise can drive you insane so I grab the AT Pro but when the F75 is running hot without much chatter look out!! I hunt allot of super trashy sites with a ton of iron and the best advise I could say is slow down and listen to all those signals you may move the coil fast back and forth but you cannot move along fast unless you disk out and drop sense but then you are just skimming for goodies on top. there have been many times I was just ready to sell it but I like it more and more as time goes on, last night I hit a favorite old school I pounded before in many directions the 75 was running good sense 85, disk 3, bp mode, 2f tones almost zero chatter worked a 40ft stretch with the 5" DD it took 2-1/2 hours analyzed maybe 200 targets pulled 4 weats and a buff nickel all about 5-7" I'm not selling anymore just learning. Good Luck & Keep Digging.

ID is similar but more erratic. However, the audio is smoother and more consistent. I prefer the delta-pitch when running in CL at low sensitivities.
