I'm hooked...what else can I say? I will be absolutely stir crazy when the ground freezes and I'm cooped up inside. Detecting has helped me through some tough times this year...and I am squeezing in every hour I can until the weather shuts me down
I blew off 2 afternoon training appointments at the YMCA on Tuesday
...and had 1/2 the day off on Wednesday...so I hit 2 more out of town parks.
I spent the whole day Tuesday...exactly where I was all day Sunday....the same park that gave up a seated dime and some other goodies. This time I hit a couple of different areas...and got some deep old injuns right off the bat. Then...just like always....I wandered around for some time before getting amy more hits....and I mean a long time.
Finally after an hour or so...I got a hit right in the middle of a dead null. It was like the old days hunting with my CZ70pro and not having a threshold....silence for about 10 seconds...then a sweet "warbly" hit right through the silence.
It wasn't even an iffy hit... just a high pitched but faint warble right through the silence... in a very narrow window. I dug down right at 10" and popped out the 1911D Barber dime.
If I wasn't absolutely creeping through this section..and I mean creeping...no way the SE would have sounded off while nulling. Do I think it's best to hunt in a null....no...but I feel I can still find deep silver even if the SE is nulling if I'm going slow enough. It's always best to have a slight threshold...but silver will still scream through regardless...depending on where the iron mask is set at....and if you are creeping....at least it does for me.
I then continued the return pass of the area I gridded off...and picked up 3 more injuns. The amazing beauty you see pictured in the upper left is my second 1865 Injun in about a month.
This one is pretty nasty too...but it does have a readable date.
I almost walked over it...but it sounded just close enough that I decided to dig it. I honestly thought it was a little piece of wire from the sound...but I had dug the other injuns less than 30 feet away. It sounded like a rotted zincoln...but the depth was showing about 9". At a different angle...the cursor bounced straight left
...and the sound was a little more like that of a pulltab. It also didn't repeat from all angles...but it pinpointed well...so I figured what the heck. It ended up being right at 9"..and was at an angle off to the side of the hole. I guess it was angled enough to make the sound a little odd...and it is obviously corroded badly. Regardless...it's an 1865...and it's all mine.
About 30 minutes later I moved over 5 feet for the return pass. I didn't take 5 steps before getting a very sweet tone...the kind that I just don't get often...nice and clear
...NO iffy to it...just a screamer with the cursor pegged top right. I even checked the digital and it read 00/29...and the depth meter was buried.
I got excited and dug the deep plug. I was thinking Barber quarter...seated quarter...heck...ANY silver quarter will be great. Ran the probe at 11"...and still screaming...yippee.
Dug one more clod out...and from nearly 13" down...out popped a nice "purty" blue freakin' SCREWCAP.
What a letdown!
Well I had obviously moved over just enough that I was in some fill dirt...so I moved to a different area. Funny thing was that a buddy of mine...and I won't mention any names
....dug a nice "purty" purple one from right at 12" down just 2 days before.
Inbetween where he found his...and I found mine....is where I had just pulled all the injuns and the Barber dime
I guess they just scattered the fill dirt in different spots.:veryangry:
On Wednesday I only had a few hours...so I hit a park a little closer. It is nowhere near as old...and the coins showed it. In about 3 hours I did manage the Roosey ...2 mercs...and a few wheaties...and that was fine by me. I don't care if I find anything....it's all about the fun...and the peace it brings me when the headphones are on.
I also don't care about the age of coins because they greatly vary from site to site. Sure the old seated and barbers are sweet...but Silver is Silver...regardless of age.
After hunting all day Tuesday...and 3 hours on Wednesday...I ended up with 4 Silvers...some wheaties...and 7 more Injuns. The silver is as follows...1911D Barber dime...1944 and 1945 mercs...and the Roosey. The injuns are as follows...1865...1883...1888...1889...1893...1899...1902
This weekend...I'm going to try and hit a park that has coughed up some real oldies before. I'm hoping that it will stop raining on Sunday...and the ground will be nice and moist for the SE and SEF coil. Thanks for viewing and good luck on your future hunts.
