Two park hunts nothing to show...

Coinstar

New member
I have been detecting now for about 5 weeks. I have been going out quite frequently. Every hunt has turned up something..lots of clad, some sort of "whats it". The last few days, I have been pulling nothing but pull tabs, bottle caps, and maybe a few clad.
It's enough to frustrate the heck out of me. Have any of you had a big dry spell, where you couldn't find a good target to save your life?

I finally got a silver dime, a 1949. It had been around 3 weeks for me.

But before that I got 5 large silver in one week, followed by 2 gold rings the next, and then the Chinese dental hammer. Then a week and a half of hardly anything to speak of. I guess it is GOD's way of keeping the v3i owners humble....:bouncy:

Because after all we cant have the best detector in the world and the best customer service and find everything.

Yep, sure have.

Change it up.
What kind of areas have you been hunting?
Ask a friend or neighbor permission to hunt their back yards.
Go hunt a beach if you have one close enough.
Try an open field.
I don't know where you live so it's hard to make suggestions.
Do something different, think outside of the box!

Good luck and Happy Hunting!

You will have those days.........:rage: Hunt for the fun of hunting and not so much what you find, when you least expect it, something nice will be in your hole. If you are digging tabs and trash you are on the right course for a gold ring, it is just a matter of time. Also keep in mind that metal detectors have been around for 60 years and public parks have been hunted hard over the years. Private property is the key to finding nice finds in abundance and researching property where there were once activity will pay off big time if you discover someplace that no one else has. Old fairgrounds, picnic grounds from the turn of the century and the like are prime pickings.

Few people like digging the tabs and junk but there are rewards for doing so. Here are a few I have dug.

yeah dry spells happen , keep the faith , like mel fisher said : all it takes is one hole: . your next great find is out there waiting. good luck and happy hunting!

I can honestly say that I've never had a dryspell. However I have been challenged to change my strategies. You may want to re-examine the locations you're trying what I tend to do is look at a place from the perspective of 25, 50, 75, 100 years ago. Keep in mind that everything changes, hills, trees, etc. There is an old hillside I know of that was a popular picnic area in the late 1800's if you go there today it's completely covered with very large trees, seemingly a forest that's been there "forever". I've hunted it several times, and always find something interesting. But.. without research, I never would have known about that hill. Also if you're very persistent in the spots you're hunting it will pay off, try gridding, try going MUCH slower. Some of what you're looking for is probably masked by trash, the V3 is very capable of picking between the trash/junk. I picked a quarter yesterday hidden under a pulltab..

Good luck..and don't give up. your dry spell is about to change.

Thanks for all the suggestions. For now I am doing parks. The one park I went to was an old bridle trail in the late 1800's. This is where I didn't find anything but about 10 cents in modern clad and a LOT of pull tabs. I guess the older the park the more it gets hunted. It doesn't bother me that I didn't find anything. I know I've got a lot to learn. But, I would think that if it was hunted so much, there wouldn't be as many pull tabs. Some were pretty old style. I went to a more modern park today and got my usual $3 dollars or so in modern clad and some cool looking pendents from a bracelet. The beach is a 2 hour drive, but I may try it out when the weather gets better.

Been detecting since 1987...... Believe me you will have Dry Spells...... my last 2 outings just came up with Clad ........before that I found 7 Rings and a Necklaces on one of my Soccer Fields with my 1 month old V3

ive found a trick with old heavily hunted parks is to dig deep low tones , they usually wont be silver but ive got alot of indians and vnickels this way and a little old gold , just dig the soild ones first, i bet theres stil some good stuff left especially in an old area.
