I have tried this coil for about 8hrs. Went back to the 140 yr park and did not find anything deeper. I used it on several other places too. I did find coins with it including a merc and a silver coin spill that i have posted on this forum. Most places i had to run.In auto. Today i was at an old park that i could run in manual 30, but nothing deep. Maybe its just me because Ive had my etrac about two months now using the pro coil and have found over 200 old coins including 39 silver. Several silver were over 9" deep, so maybe Ive just have too much confidence in the pro coil and not enough in the ultimate. Anyway, with the success Ive had with the pro i think I'm going to stick with it. I cant list the ultimate on this site because Ive not been here long enough so I'm going to list it on several fb groups i belong to. Thank you to everyone who tried to help me get adjusted the the ultimate.Maybe I'm just old and have a lack of Patience. Lol

sounds to me like it worked better than the Pro Coil, you found old coins with it the pro coil missed and as far as not finding any deeper at the other park maybe there is no deeper silver. it can only find what is there and can't do magic and make silver just appear. I know I sold my Pro coil and have no regrets about it

The old coins found with the ultimate were found at new areas that had never seen a detector. Ill probably go back to those areas with my pro coil and check if it had missed anything.

It is hard to beat the Pro-Coil. But confidence in your equiptment is the main thing. Congratulations on your finds. HH :minelab:

I always wonder why people believe that they have to found more with 13 ultimate coil then with Pro?

i have freinds that have larger coils and it seems to make little difference at times i think that you are dead on about having confidence in your pro coil i know i feel mine does as well as some of the larger coils could be the confidence factor more than anything

You are fortunate to live in an area that has that number of old coins to be found.
In my soil the biggest advantage to the 13 is coverage not depth and I'll use it for 2 or 3 hour hunts when the weight and trash don't become a disadvantge. If more depth is vital to you , try the 15" WOT or the 12x15 SEF and see how they work--both have good resale value.

Lets see,
you found 200 coins including 39 silvers with the ProCoil in 2 months.
In only 8 hours with the Ultimate you found a silver coin spill and a merc and probably other coins not mentioned.
Do the math.

Could be you already found most or all the (easy) coins in that 140 year old park with the ProCoil. There is a finite amount of coins in that park.
Were able to up the sens. to 30 at one site which suggests nothing is wrong with that Ultimate.
Were only able to run AUTO sens. in some other areas. This is typical from one site to another. Tall grass/weeds, EMI, mineralized soil can all affect the sensitivity levels.

An occassional false or two can be a good thing.
With my Tornado coil at a new site, i start with manual 30 then ratchet down to a point where i get a false maybe every 4 or 5 sweeps. That seems to be the sweet spot with the greatest sens. possible without untolerable continuous falsing.
My average setting is anywhere from 24 to 30 depending on the site.

One other thing regarding falsing with these larger coils.
When i first start using the Tornado coil, it falsed continuously no matter what sens. setting. When i popped the coil cover off there was an unbelievable amount of dirt and weeds between it and the coil. Falsing was just a little better but still there.
Then i noticed it usually falsed towards the end of the left sweep. Turned out that sensitive coil was actually detectng my digging tool which was hanging down at thigh level.

Confidence in detection gear is a big factor especially when that gear has found lots of keepers in the past.

the only true way to see which works better is to find a deep iffy target and swing both coils over it. swing one over it and change and try it again. any other way is like comparing apples to oranges. you need to do a head to head test ... if the Pro coil wins so be it

As ironsight mentioned, ground mineralization plays a role. If it is high enough you can actually get less depth. It is a bit like a bell curve, depending on the ground mineralization that depth limit varies.

In my somewhat mineralized (though high iron content) soil, the 13" Ultimate gave me around 1"-1.5" more depth.
The interesting thing is I think it actually separates better, not that I would want to use it around too many targets.

I compared signals on deep targets with the stock and 13" and the latter was clearly better. You might want to find some deeper targets and check them on the stock coil to see how it hits them. (Of course adjusting sensitivity accordingly.)

8 hours is hardly enough time to give it a fair trial....I used badJims 13 coil for about a week and loved it, i hated to have to give it back....

I agree,

We all know that its not a coil for everybody.

I can't say enough good things about it. I am constantly finding coins next to, or in iron. My sensitivity always runs very high unless the EMI is VERY bad.

No matter what you do though I wish you the best! The Pro coil is also a VERY good coil and I have found my share of great finds with it.

This coil just may not be for me. Ive been swinging a detector since 1972. The silver I found with the ultimate was relatively shallow compared to the pro coil. The coin spill was 4-5" and the merc was around 6". The deepest i found was a wheat at around 6-7". I know with the pro coil i was finding silver dimes at 8-9". I can usually make a fair assessment of a detector within an hour of using it. I knew in under 20 min with the Etrac that it was an awesome machine. It has proved that over and over and i bought it used. I believe I have given this coil a fair test under my conditions. Everything else was fine. Target ID was right on, target separation was actually very good and pin pointing was great. Its just the depth. It may turn out that it is my loss not using this coil but i have amazing confidence with the pro and it has proved from day one that it gets the job done whether in a trashy hunted out park or virgin property. For now that's what i have to go with.

I look forward to seeing the finds you make from the Amazing Etrac!!

Till you swing both coils over the same deep target you will never know which is best ... you can't say well I dug 20 coins yesterday with the Pro and only 10 with the ultimate today so the Pro must be better

Let me ask the '500 pound gorilla in the room' obvious question thats been missing so far?
Have you done any air testing between the two coils?
Should give at least a ball park idea.

Finding some 9 inch deep coins over a 2 month period with the ProCoil and then comparing those results with 8 hrs. of Ultimate field testing is at that stage of the game comparing apples to oranges IMO. The conclusion is based more on emotion than scientific test methodology.

Expecting to find great keepers at the same site all the time, every visit to that same site can be unrealistic.
There are times where i've found foot deep coins at a sight and then found only shallow coins the next few times back. And sometimes i've found nothing at all worth keeping at that same site. Then only to return to that site to find more foot deep coins.

I figured it out, the Ultimate is sucking them up to the surface it's so POWERFUL

I know on the E-trac the Ultimate is better by far..........have used both of them a LOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they are cheaper than the Pro Coil
