:usaflag:Safari pros and cons?

:usaflag:I'm about ready to purchase another detector. Was wondering what you all thought of your Safari. Any good points or bad ones? Thought about the Explorer Pro but I can get a pretty good deal on a Safari. Thanks.

I really like mine. Had it about a year and a half no problems. The FBS technology is the same as the E-Trac and SE-Pro as far as depth but it does not give target information like the E-Trac or the Explorer SE but the Safari is more user friendly in my opinion. Pick a factory program noise cancel and hunt or you can put in your own program. Once you learn the tones I think you will really like the way it finds targets. Even in high trash sites. EMI does'nt bother it much you may have to adjust the sensitivity but you can hunt. Here in TN. I hunt a lot of parks close to hydro-electric dams and high voltage switchyards where there is a lot of EMI that gives some machines fits but with multi-frequencies and automatic ground balance I can hunt when some of my friends with other machines have problems. If you can try one before you decide that would be a big help. It is heavier than a lot of other machines but not much I think around 5 lbs. My G-2 weighs about half that but I use it mostly for relic hunting. But if you take time to learn the Safari you will be very pleased. Good luck with whatever machine you decide on. HH :minelab:

Very good machine, will work about every where except under water.Very well constructed. As deep seeking ID detector on market that you can find nothing out that's better except etrac or I would buy it.I think there are better relic machines out there if that is what you do.As far as gold I have found 9 gold men's rings no rings from the ladies I have a love hate relationship with safari on gold I found one of the rings at 8 inches came in good was inscribed with English school 1842 .I have a field that I have found maybe 30 little 50 and 75 cent California gold coins/token they are small the safari and etrac had trouble finding them at any depth which I cannot understand because in same field it will find small button or 3 cent silver at 6 inches. It really eats batteries 12 to 14 hours max.

The only con I can think of is, it is such a great machine it takes a bit of time to master.(Not really a con). I think it's as good if not better than any other $1,000 detector. So if you want to hunt for coin/ jewelry either drop 1,600 on e-trac or the next best thing would be safari. LOL if it's that good of a deal and you don't buy it let me know and I'll buy a second one!

I have read alot of good things about the safari. I am a beginer at this. Is it hard to learn the tones?

It's only hard for those use to a beginning level detector... like me. I got mine about a month ago and have spent maybe 20 hours with it. I'm getting pretty good but a ways from mastering it. I hunt with guys that can hear the difference between a pop top and gold with this model (that's why I bought it!). I would say a better statement is, it takes some getting use to.

Actually it would be easier for a beginner to learn tone hunting in my opinion. They have not been spoiled by all the fancy display information. Once you start to rely on the display it is hard to stop.

Most pros use the Safari

most cons steal the Safari from pros....

IMO the Safari is an easy machine to get to learn. It takes some getting used to especially the sounds. I highly recommend a close intense reading of the manual and then getting a copy of Andy's book and reading it. A little time spent on MLTV listening and viewing the Safari video's will help as well. Use the canned modes to begin with. Plant a test bed of coins and trach to learn the sounds. Make sure you have a few pull tabs, bottle caps, balls of tin foil, chewing gum wrappers and pieces of luminum can in there. You can set up a test area with clean single items and then a mix of coins and trash to learn your machins behaviour.:detecting:

My own experience is that I want a more complete complex detector and plan at some point to graduate to the Etrac. I have to find that Diamond ring to pay for it first though. Meanwhile this machine is capable and easy to use. Its a screamer in all metal mode at the beach and with a sand scoop you'll be hauling out the loot...
