V3,,,,should I ?

I helped moved a friend and was told she would buy me a metal detector as i thank you, ,alot of lifting and cleaning...I was thinking of the V3,,,,,i live close to the beaches and of course some parks,,or,,should i look at the DFX.?.....White;s has a special 100 dollar promotion with choice loop and carry bag and hand pinpointer...what coil should i look at,?,,,,,,,,,i was told to get the 12 inch as the its more stable on the beach......what do you think?,,,,,i appreciate any help,..,HH...Tim

The V3 is quite a detector and if $$ is not a factor.......heck yes...go for it. The Super 12" might be a good choice for the beach, but many say the 950 works very well for them. If you will be working the parks, you might want to consider something smaller like the 5.3 depending how much trash is in the parks you are hunting. Keep in mind the $100 White's package offer is good for only two more days, but you have until the end of the month to get the coupon in.

Man... that is quite a tip for helping someone move. Are you sure your friend is aware of the cost of the V3?

There are two machines in that range to look at, IMO. The V3 and the E-TRAC.

If you want to beach hunt maybe you should look at the Minelab Excalibur or SovereignGT. For the beach, and shallow wading, I don't think anything will beat the Sovereign GT. If you want to get it wet, then the Excalibur. I wouldn't consider either the V3 or the E-TRAC for regular beach use. You can chest mount the Sovereign using a cheap binocular harness, it comes with a pouch for chest or belt mounting the control box. With the ET or the V3, you pretty much have to keep the box on the shaft without major work. There is nothing on the beach that the SovGT won't find and it's good on land too but you'll want to get a 180 meter with it. Then it is at around 500 bucks cheaper than the V3 or E-TRAC... just a thought.

Both machines you mention are excellent !! Both the DFX and the V3 are really good detectors. I have had the DFX and then bought the V3. Never mind the E-Trac get a Whites, you will not regret it......

Give some of the machines a test run if you can. If there is a club around you, talk to some folks and see if you can get a feel for them. The V is one heck of a machine and we are all just starting to see what it does to get around a lot of situations where things can be difficult. It is coming through like no other box ever has before. Full retail is not what people are paying these days or if you do pay that price you should be able to get a few quality accessories with it.

I have not had much time to detect but have been cramming some program variations into my library that are gold jewelry oriented. Been readin a lot of posts and the tweaks are basically emulating fast response setups from several manufacturers. In the last eight hours of hunting....eight gold rings, 4 silver and one copper ring! (Five hunts within that 8 hrs. as that is just the way things have been for me...yuck!) To be fair, this spot is probably an exception but all the jewelry signals have been tight in to traditional ring signals and there hasn't been too much garbage being dug (compared to what I used to dig).

Whichever box you end up with (of those suggested), learn the thing well and you will be rewarded. If you do decide on the Spectra V3...job one is to back off on the sensitivities and learn your way up the adjustment curve and sweep settings/offset variations. This stuff will "click" with you and enjoy the ride!
