Very Old Silver Half Dollar!

Found at an old Church site this week. My first thought was what is this,then I saw a date 1870 & 50 cents and realize It was a coin. What I found was a 1870 Canadian Newfoundland Half Dollar. Someone was trying to make something out of it.

They mutilated that poor coin 😕
Reminds me of a good buddy of mine who found a SLQ in pristine condition…Poor lady Liberty had her head nearly decapitated from a lawnmower blade 🫢
To this day, he still cries :cry:himself to sleep 🫢
 
Great find, but too bad it was damaged…
I wonder what the heck someone was trying to make with it?🤔
