That little park gave up another 4 silvers Sat. & Sun. on top of the merc and buffie last week. The few targets I'm digging have all been in the 7-9" range, including the Rosies!!! The locals have done a good job of cleaning off the top crap under 6" so about the only targets left are the iffies and deepies which makes it nice and the digging is easy so a guy can chase a few nails and/or iffies without killing himself.......

PS...Canadian silver, sterling pendant and bulk of the wheats came off a private........

This little park is about 1/2 acre and I believe had a railroad siding run right down the middle of it at one time? Last few days I've been trying to figure the place out. Usually I hunt in auto +3 and most my good (silver/wheat) public ground finds come in the 5-7" range. Once in awhile I dig an 8" coin or the very rare 9" larger coin. I've hunted here before on a couple real quick hunts with no luck and kinda wrote the place off? I'm so far out in Podunk with no place to hunt so I returned to the park to try and see if I could squeak out a coin or two and try and figure out how to tweak some settings/coils and get a little deeper? The 5 silvers I've dug here have all been 7-8" including the rosies and the 5-6 wheats have been 6-8" range with 1 being 9" and probably my deepest wheat to date? So I've got deep rosies and figure I'm dealing with some fill? I dig an 8" rosie (my 3rd now from here) and then 1 foot away I dig an 8" '09 barber so I can't figure this place out....? What I'm getting at is that I've been stuck in my comfort zone and methods/settings for awhile now and re-hunting the public grounds I've already re-hunted many times with diminishing results. This little park has shown me that stepping out of my usual settings and trying different things (mainly getting into manual sens) appears to have given me another inch of depth? I've also been chasing more iffies, one way hits, and some real lousy #'s, etc and some have paid off? I won't lie....I've also dug more nails than usual chasing some falses. Thank god this park is easy digging and has opened my eyes to step out of my comfort zone and try to mix things up and learn my machine better...and it appears to be paying off? Almost forgot.....4 of the 5 silvers and the 9" wheat were got with manual sens and my beloved 6" eq2...... If you read this and are stuck in a rut like I am/was..... I suggest you return to the easiest to dig public place you have and try some new things.........

Yeah, i think you could be passing up a lot of deep oldies by using Auto sens. That park does sound like it was filled at one time and if it goes back to a 1800s map i would definitely use manual sens. there. Sounds like you cleaned up the shallower goodies with Auto. There could be some 1800s coins buried deep. Sounds like a good little site you got there. Nails are a good sign if they're severely corroded and deep, square nails are even a better sign.
