Hello everyone. It's been a long time since I have posted and I hope everyone has been finding some good stuff on your outings. I would like to wish everyone Good Luck in 2011 and let the finds begin!

Saturday Morning, Dale, Tim and I headed south to get rid of the detecting blues and to see what we could scrounge up for the beginning of 2011. Lots of miles were put on but luckily we found a few good spots to detect at and it made it worth while. We searched multiple Parks on Saturday. Most were heavily worked out it seemed but then again some of these were pretty large and we didn't have enough time to truly pound them in order to find any hidden treasures. We did find a Park though that did give up a few coins. I found a Merc, a few Wheats and a token with a date of 1907 on it. Dale got a few Wheats as well and so did Tim. We tried another Park but not much was found in this Park. I did find a 1902 V-Nickel and Dale got a Wheatie though.

The second Park was a bit better in finds. This Park was in an older neighborhood but most of it had been landscaped at some point. We did find a few keepers here though but it took some time before we did. Dale ended up getting 2 Wheats and a 1913 Barber Dime. Tim got only a few Wheats and I ended up getting only 2 Wheats, an 1882 Indian Head and some kind of Troll figurine. The Park was pretty tough but I am sure there is still a few keepers there for someone that puts in the time. As we were in this Park, a Hispanic teenage kid come walking by and said hey. I said hey back and then he asked if we were looking for radiation? Before I could answer, Dale told him yes....we are looking for radiation. I started to chuckle and told Dale to knock it off but the kid bought it and then said, "pretty crazy stuff isn't it" with Dale saying yes and telling him that we were in fact looking for radiation. The kid then left and Dale sat there chuckling. I asked him what he thought he was doing and Dale replied "I'm looking for radiation". I just started laughing and told him he was a clown. Later in the day, we all decided to go check out some neighboring towns and see what they had in store for us and I'm glad we did.

The next town, we decided to go try the Fairgrounds and this is where we stayed until dark. There wasn't a lot of stuff being found at first but there was some Serious Goodies just waiting to be plucked. Lots of Deep Clad was everywhere which was a bit discouraging but we pressed on knowing that there had to be something there for older coins. After awhile of hunting and only Clad to show for it, I decided to head towards some buildings. As I walked I was stopped by a Silver Screamer! I backed up and went over the target again. Yep....about 8" Deep and screaming like Silver. Dug a plug and found a Silver disk the size of a Dime. Picked it up and seen 1876. SEATED!!! I yelled over to Tim and he pulled his headphones off. He asked what I found and I yelled back....Seated Dime! He said "Alright....way to go!" and we continued working with Dale hot on the trail for some Silver as well. About 3 minutes later, I got another Screamer of a signal but thought it was going to be a Wheatie. I was using Digital and it read 27 and it would have been different if I was in Smartfind since then I would have known what I was about to dig next. I dug a plug and a larger round disk comes out of the hole. At first I thought crushed Screw cap but then realized it was a coin when I picked it up. 1918-s Walking Liberty Half!!! I then yelled over to Tim and Dale again and yelled Walker! Tim got excited and came over to see it and so did Dale. Dale asked how deep the coins were and I told him around the same depth as the Clad so your going to have to dig everything. Well....we pressed on and only a few Wheats were found. We then left and got a Motel Room for the night. Tim told Dale that we would go looking at the Parks in the morning and that we would go back to the fairgrounds after we tried them since I had proven that there was potential at the fairgrounds for some nice finds.

Sunday Morning rolled around and Tim was sitting outside the Motel with Dale chatting. Tim yells out that he found a Dime laying on the sidewalk so I decided to poke my head out the door. I noticed another Dime laying under a pickup so I pushed Dale out of my way and told him I seen another Dime. Dale asked where and I told him under the pickup. I reached under the truck and grabbed the Dime. I looked at it and seen it was a Canadian Dime and was shocked to see it was dated 1966 which made it Silver. I started laughing and told Tim and Dale that I just found a Silver Canadian Dime. They both thought I was joking but I then showed them the Dime. Tim said "you lucky #@(%()! Look at that...he didn't even need a detector and he's already finding Silver this morning. Well, after about 45 minutes and Dale got done taking his shower and getting some breakfast, we headed out in search for the Park.

We first started hunting a ball field that was in the Park and Dale and I was the only one who got anything. I found a Wheatie, Silver Rosie and a Silver Ring. Dale got a Compact that had 3 Wheats all in the teens inside. The ball field had been redone when a large drain was trenched in making most old coins out of detector reach. We then walked over to the Park. We worked this for about 2 hours or so. Tim got in an area and found an 1899 Barber Dime and a bunch of Wheats. I walked through this area not knowing Tim had been working it and I got a very Deep tick of a signal. I decided to dig it since it stayed and never disappeared like an iron false does. Dug down and about 10" out pops a worn Silver disk. I picked it up and the obverse was totally smooth except I could barely make out a Seated figure on it. Another Seated Dime! Tim asked if I dug an Indian Head and I told him no, just another Seated Dime. Tim was disgusted with me since he just had worked that area. We kept working finding a few more Wheats, 3 Indian Heads, and a Rosie.

We stopped at another Park and only Wheats was found by Tim, Dale got a few Wheats and an Indian Head, and I got a few Wheats and another V-Nickel dated 1899. We then decided to head to the Fairgrounds.

Now this is where it got interesting. We started hunting and the normal Clad was showing up. I did pop out a '37 Wheatie right off the bat and it was going to get better. I worked an area and nothing but new stuff. I decided to go see where the other fellas were and walked between to buildings. As I crossed out in front of a sign, I got a Deeper Signal. I dug it and out pops another Half. I walked over and showed Tim. He continued telling me how lucky I was and that he can't find anything but a few Wheats. Dale then pops out a Merc as we were talking. We all started working again and only a few more Wheats were found. I then decided to try back where I just got the Half and popped out a couple more Wheats. Now at this time, Tim decided to set his E-trac to only pick up Dimes, Quarters, Halves. I didn't like this at first since he wanted to be greedy but I figured he can do what he wants but I am going to continue digging everything. I then decided to try where Dale had found that Merc at and popped out a few more Wheats. Tim came over and said he had found 3 Merc's but nothing big for Silver. As we parted, I got a signal. Dug down and out pops another Walker! Yelled over to Tim and said "another Walker". Continued working and was about to go around the other side of a building while Tim and I talked about why no Silver Quarters were being found and then I get a Quarter reading. Dug down and out popped a Silver Quarter. By now Tim was very disgusted with me and getting peeved. Decided to go try out where I found the first Half and got a few Wheats and out popped the 4th Walker. Dale came back after about an hour and a half and he hadn't found anything. Tim told him what I had been finding and Dale was in a state of shock. We then decided to try across the street at a Park where I only came up with a Merc. After this we headed back home but did a quick stop. Everyone got Silver but I was the only one to get Seated and any Big Silver last weekend.

We stopped in a very small town where I got a Wheat, Dale got a Silver Ring and a Wheatie or 2 and Tim got a Well Drilling Watch Fob, Silver Ring, Token, and a few Wheats. Then we headed back home around 7:00pm.

Here is what I found. Silver total was 14 and consisted of 4 Walking Liberty Half Dollars dated 18-s,40,42,44, 1 Silver Washington Quarter dated 42, 2 Seated Dimes dated 1874 (can make out a very weak 4 with arrow on obv.) and 1876, 4 Mercury Dimes dated 24,41,44,44-d, 2 Roosevelt Dimes dated 54,64, and the Canadian Dime dated 66. I found 2 V-Nickels dated 1899 and 1902. I got a Token that reads St. Paul Dispatch $20,000.00 Savings Offer To The People Of The Northwest 1907 and reverse reads St. Paul Dispatch $20,000.00 Savings Offer This Medal Is Worth 50

James,

Good to see you posting. I'm still in Beloit. Got a job interview for a stint in China this morning. Need to get out detecting soon because the weather/ground conditions are perfect.

Thanks for the upper shaft.

Amazing finds :yo: Great story  That was certainly a productive weekend, congrats.

150 miles should have been far enough to do some hunting but it was too dark as of yet to know since we went farther than that. It was sure fun to get out again and do some detecting and it was around 60 degrees both days. Thanks for the reply and I'm glad I could help you out with the upper shaft. Take care and Good Luck and HH to you in Wisconsin.

Hope you all get some great finds on your next outings. Best of Luck and HH to you. :detecting:
