What coil would you recommend for a tot lot?

From time to time I like to hunt tot lots. My Etrac with it's stock coil won't let me get within 2 to 3 feet of the metal poles even if I turn the sensitivity to a minus 3 in auto.
What would you suggest?

I was just about to ask a similar question when I saw your post. I have been thinking about a small coil to help get closer to chain link fences and sidewalks with heavy metal reinforcement. Would the Sun Ray x-5 performance be a vast improvement in these situations when compared to the pro coil?

(Oh crap... I wasn't paying attention and thought you were asking about a detector... but I will let my answer stand because you can get a used Compadre as cheap or maybe cheaper than you can get a small coil for the ET) That said... I have had a small Excellerator 5 or 6 inches and I have had a SunRay S-5 (both were actually for a Sovereign) I preferred the S-5 but you would need and X-5 for the ET... I still think the Compadre would be the way to go for tot lots and it would give you a backup detector.

Tesoro Compadre or an Omega-8000. You could buy a Gold Bug SE for the 5" coil if you get an Omega because they share the coil and the coil is over 100 bucks but you can pick up a GBSE for 499 shipped. The Omega with its lower freq and the GBSE with its 19khz would be a killer combo for coins and jewellry.

Thw new Garrett AT-PRO may be a good choice too because of its coil design. It is a DD coil with a flat tip and butt end so it can get close to objects.

If you have the bucks I think the combo Omega/GBSE (or G2) would be awesome... if you want to do it on the cheap and still find everything, including really thin gol chains like kids wear... then the Compadre cannot e beat IMO... and new it is about 150 bucks, used you can get 'em cheap! They have a full ED-180 disc, only one know. On/off/disc... whats not to like... and how deep are things going to be at tot lots. Oh... and it comes stock with a concentric 5" coil so it will get right up to the playground equipment.

Ask Monte... he knows everything about Tesoros...

Well, I have an Ace 250 with a sniper coil that works well in tot lots, but I would rather use my E-trac. Today I used the E-trac with a Sun-Ray x-5 coil. It allowed me to get much closer to the metal poles. The x-5 coils was also good at separating signals in the local park.
