What I would like to see on the next update of the E-Trac detector

A graph of the frequencys (four or five would be enough) that are responding best to the target and their relative strength.
(something like the White's V3 does with it's three frequency's)

I think that would help in IDing the targets metal makeup.

Any comments?

Sounds like a nice feature if it were more accurate than the v3 was/is.I find the tones in multi tone to be the most accurate for my IDing so far.

A Digital Depth Gauge like White's machines have.

An hour meter and a....uhhh - oh yeah Mosquito Fogger

I'm serious about the hour meter though.

While we're at it - hows 'bout a push button ground defroster - once you've pinpointed the target, push the "ground defrost" button and VOILA - your ground is unfrozen. Could double as a 'ground moistener" in the summer when it gets real hard also.

I whole heartedly agree with the multi tone tones being most accurate Ray. If I wanted a Whites I'd buy one:clapping:

Right now, a heated handgrip would be nice and a defroster for the screen.

Make it Weather resistant. I would also Like to be able to name Saved Modes rather than recognizing them by the associated Disc Pattern, so adding a way to do that would be nice.

Rich, it already is weather resistant. You can hunt in the rain without hurting it, even without an environment protector.

I would like to be able to name my saved modes also.

I would like the ability to record responses. If I have a certain type of signal, I could save lets say 30 seconds of response to download to my computer and replay later at home.

Ability to adjust the 17-line on the two-tone ferrous mode.

Ability to chest-mount the display box and reduce the overall weight.

I'm with you onemore:thumbup:

That's the most brilliant thing I've ever read! No, seriuosly................

ID is pretty accurate on V3i.. V3i has selectable coil options for greater depth accuracy in pin point mode.. Depth in search mode is still based on a 9.50 coil even though a 950 coil never came standard on a V3.... Im OK with the current depth gauge on the Etrac though..I rely on it a lot.for dig/no dig.. Id like to see assignable tones, (give those nickels and gold coins a nice high tone)...a brighter, tougher screen ..... Dual Mode , either Etrac mode or Explorer mode with old ferrous mapping on the Smart Find screen.. Being able to name your saved programs would be nice too.. a clock..........

Adjustable screen angle for glare would be nice.

Also better definition in the pulltab range... beavertails and nickels need more separation.

A coil cover that actually covers the whole coil. You'll notice a rectangular area under where the cable comes into the coil that for some odd reason is not covered by the coil cover. Having worn through my first coil cover, I can see the wear on that part of the bottom of the coil and also see it becoming a potential problem.

Also somewhat related, a sensitivity boost when switching to the SunRay probe... in auto sensitivity it definitely needs more oomph.

And if I we do happen to get a ground defroster feature, I want a picture screen with x-ray target ID.

It would be nice to know if anyone from Minelab is listening! Don't have one yet, but I am working on it.

reading the list above reminds me of the wish list i used to write to santa when i was little which was alooooooong time ago as we are under two foot of snow at the moment the heat pad would be a great addition but cant imagine myself pulling a 12 volt car battery around to power it lol

I wrote to Minelab and made some suggestions a couple of years ago, but have not heard anything back.
!. Double coil, so that you could detect with a large coil and switch to a small coil in the same coil.
2. Identify the type of metal being detected. Silver, aluminum, copper etc.
3. The ability to set tone the same for the target ranges you art looking for. Gold and silver could sound the same.
4. Fix the pinpoint mode from locking on.
5. Factory installed probe with adjustable sensitivity. On and off switch activated by removing or replacing probe in cradle.
6. Surface blanker. The ability to null out shallow targets when you are looking for deep old targets. Adjustable from 0 to 6 inches.
7. Clock on the screen run by a separate battery.
8. The ability to use AC and DC at he same time with or without hearing the DC signal.
9. A time phase compensated circuitry and coil. This would give you a three dimensional view of the target.
10. The ability to identify and block out offending spurious signals from power lines etc.
If anyone doesn't understand some of this, let me know.

I see alot of good ideas in the following posts. But I haven't paid for this one yet. And I would get some Real Glares and Growls. If I was foolish enough to say. Hooooney I need another new detector becasue it has (this and this and of course this) and mine doesn't ! ! ! Grumpy

good to see you appreciate what you have got hope you get some cracking finds to help you pay for your investment happy hunting

I see Allot of good ideas but know the price on the detector is just OK and as we add more toys to the detector the price go UP( and the more the chance to something go wrong and then we )*&%^% if it takes to much time to fix or if it takes time to learn or if the weight is to much)
I like the trill of the hunt you never know what you are going to on cover wen you dig it may be a good target it may not? if is to easy well then is not fun any more
i will be just happy if the next E-trac is water proof i know we use the cover on the control box but still ( may be a security program to put your name on the unit) yes is till can walk a way but if ends up in for service or on a dealer you may recover the detector?
