What is the break point for you on the ferrous side...?

I find that smal pieces of square nail will always sound good. I'm talking about pieces about 1" long, I dig too many of them at one site because they will not "double beep' and they always seem to read good.

I think its the age of the square nails that make them sound good. I usually dig iron by mistake when looking for deep silver and it is always the most rusted little shards that get me the most. Idigid

Fast ON clips the target signal makes shorter more abrupt sounding helps in trashy areas but I leave it off for general hunting.

I noticed a couple things I hunt in the coins preset pattern and Multi tones and when I get a good sounding deeper signal with lower ferrous numbers I do a couple of things. Turn 90 degrees and sweep and see if it nulls out and what the readings are now co and fe. Turn again and repeat and see and then one more time making a full 360 over the target. If I get a high tone only on maybe one or 2 of the 2 ends of a nail and it's not in the same spot and nulls along the axis it's usually a iron object or nail.

When you PINPOINT the ETRAC gives REAL TIME info and I have seen the ferrous number change to way lower and the cursor is down in the bottom right hand corner sitting in the black area and I dug a few to check it was iron (nails) . The cursor needs to be up higher in the discriminated out black area more for it to possiably be a coin.

3rd Quick mask doesn't come with a preset it's wide open white which is as close to all metal as you get with an Etrac. You can add in some ferrous and conductive blacking of the screen but I prefer to leave it wide open. Cause every time I do say black out from the 35 at the bottom up to 28-30 on it I still doubt myself when I see the cursor drop to that point so when I get a signal I'm not sure about I hit the quick mask button with a WIDE OPEN SCREEN and if that cursor dives down to the bottom or into the bottom right hand corner and doesen't come outof that position it's always been junk.

If the cursor doesn't go down all the way to the bottom or the bottom right corner but maybe to 30 ferrous up off the bottom area and tries to bounce back up towards the middle of the screen some more instead of trying to go lower it has been a coin. I was able to seperate an iron object and a barber dime just off the end of it maybe a couple inches as I went over the junk iron it stayed in the corner but as I passed over the dime it (the cursor) came up jumping higher towards the middle of the screen more but the sound was about the same and the conductive was too. I usually don't even pay any attention to the ferrous numbers at all it means pretty much nothing to me since it can and will fool with you.
