This is a first for me...no coins found. Pretty much destiny though...especially since we found out they put about 8 feet of fill dirt over the site a few years ago
I knew something was screwy when I would get a nice plug dug...then find a piece of wood and all kinds of crap in the hole besides a coin
Niterider_58 and I hit an old train depot site and we thought we were going to be zillionaires after my first dig...which turned out to be the ONLY keeper on the day. My first target was a nice coin hit...and it was deep. I dig down around 10" and the probe was still singing...but the target was bigger...so I figured big chunk of metal crap
. Well I was half right. I popped out a big chunk of metal and cussed to myself as I rubbed some mud off where I could see a few words. Phil yelled over..."did you find something interesting"? I replied ya'...a big chunk of crap with some writing on it. I then gave it my best backhand frisbee toss of around 20 to 25 feet or so where it promptly landed perfectly at the base of Phil's explorer xs. I watched as he picked it up and started rubbing to see what the words were. His face turned bright red and his eyes opened up like he downed a can of hot sauce
. He then shouted out a few choice bad words and ended with..."you lucky S. O. ?"
I guess these are quite valuable to collectors...but to me...it's a big chunk of crap with words on it
It is a baggage tag from the old B&O Railway system...and it's pretty big and heavy...about the size of a western belt buckle. Phil said it was probably from around the 1920's or so...and thought it should be worth anywhere from $50 to as high as $150 if I decided to sell it at auction because it is in great shape and completely intact.....yippee!
