What No Longer Minted Denomination Coins Have You Dug ?

Mike Gresham said:
I only hunt during the winter months. No snakes, ticks, mosquitos, or annoying kids on playgrounds. On my last hunt this past April I took my Etrac to a mid-1800's yard that I had literally hunted to death with my Garrett over 10 years or so. The very first signal was the 1870 IH at 5", then a few feet away the second signal was the outstanding 1784 quarter-reale at 8". I was so excited I decided to quit after only hunting 10 minutes or so and take the coins home to show the wife. I left the Etrac running and pushed it in a straight line towards my truck, and then Wham!, there's the SL dime at 6".

Mike, very nice finds, but looking at the size (looks 1/2 dollar size) of the coin piece in the photo I think that you've found a cut 4 reale (quite rare) as oppose to a quarter real. Four reale coins are almost never found or even seen at coin shows for that matter. I only know of one (uncut) four reale ever found and that was by a buddy earlier this year. Congratulations

Probably my best find to date... That rusty spot you see on the back is where a big or square nail use to sit. The coin was about 5" down. I'm getting back into detecting after a short break to pursue my other passion photography. So I have to learn this new E-Trac :)

Wow, that twenty cent piece is in really excellent condition, besides being a rare find it had to have been dropped almost new. Congratulations.
