CAN WE USE TO HELP ID SOME JUNK TARGETS I HAVE HERD THERE WERE SOME BUT, MAYBE SOME OF YOU GUYS AND GALS CAN HELP !!

thanks

The Deus loves junk , especially alluminum , so you best get used to it in a modern setting.
I find the XY screen problematic as a detecting mode as it only really differentiates the "bad" junk. Learn to ID the "round" sound.
The best method for eliminating bottle caps is the frequency change. I think there are referrences to it in both the manual and Sabisch's book as well as numerous write ups about it here on the forum.
Hopefully the XP guys have addressed the issue a bit with their update.

I hear this a lot and it usually goes along with hunting with zero discrimination or too low and full tones.
So... here's what I do and I dig very little iron and very deep targets.
The Deus assigns a number from 1-100 for all targets. Iron starting at 1 and making its way up to about 96 for big silver. The numbers exact read out for each target can change depending on the frequency that is being used.

The Deus gives you some great tools to use to get rid of unwanted targets. Discrimination, iron volume and notch.
In simple terms in the USA for the most part unless you're looking for iron relics everything below 30 is crap.

Here is what I do.
Set your discrim to 8 and notch 8-30. Iron volume set to 2.

What you will end up with is a very stable unit with little junk.
Hit a target wiggle back and hear a buzz it's most likely junk. Dig a bunch of them prove it to yourself.
Of course there are exceptions. We all dig junk it's part of it. Make the biggest part of your decisions based on location. Old cellar hole dig it all. Somewhere newer or public think about it.

You want to use at least 3 tones because once you use the Discrimination the first tone becomes the Iron Volume at whatever level you have set that for. So if you have your Discrimination set to 8 the first tone you set will then be the tone you hear for any target from 0-8 then your second tone and so on. I use 4 tones. Where you make the breaks and what tone you assign are of course a personal choice.

I will try these settings, I was at reservoir looking for coins and jewelry. The beach was deep sand with little to no mineralization and I was using Andy's two coin programs from his book. All I found was junk, mostly beavertail pull tabs. I threw my gold wedding ring down in the sand only to find it was notched out completely. I am new to this sight and very new to the Deus XP, I will be reading and rereading Andy's book all winter as well as learning from this forum.

No detector is capable of effectively "notching out" tabs (regardless of the type) without running the risk of losing some desirable jewelry as well. To attempt that in the setting you are describing is self defeating with the Deus as it loves to sound good on alluminum. I have gold rings which sound wonderful in 18kz from 37 to 70. The best suggestion is to dig em all or dig the ones that sound crisp & clear and somewhat different. Irregular shapes produce a somewhat fuzzy sound...avoid those. It's not an FBS afterall.

Agreed
If you notch out pull tabs you lose good things too. 100%

This goes for Every Machine out there. It's just that simple. You need to be sight specific for dig or not to dig.

HOW ABOUT
MAKEING A PASS WITH SOME GOOD JUNK NOTCHING FIRST. FROM YOU EXP. USERS WHAT WOULD BE SOME GOOD AREAS TO NOTCH !!

MY REASONING IS GO 4 THE GOOD STUFF FIRST AND THEN OPEN UP THEM NOTCHES AND LOOK 4 OTHER GOOD TARGETS WITH THE

JUNK .

I notch just the 8-30 and the 97-99 as I've said. Then I pretty much make a decision weather to dig or not based on size of target and crispness of sound. Then I dig and sometimes I'm right some wrong and sometimes I'm missing good targets. Just how it is if you don't dig all positive targets from any machine.
Discrimination Bad

As the inevitable colder weather moves in, I'm planning to move from land hunting to the ever-eroding beaches of Southern Maine.
I'd sure like to add that new V4 hardware (coil) and firmware to my own bag of Deus tricks :)

HOW GOOD IS CHANGING FRQ. DOWN TO 4 KHZ CHECKING 4 TRASH !!

Do you realize your using all caps? On the internet thats shouting LOL

The drop the frequency trick is very good but it doesn't have to be 4 khz just below whatever your using. I E 18 to 12 or 12 to 8.

Start with a program you like then make a exact copy of the program just with a lower frequency and store it right next to your go to program and change the name to something Iron. Then you can just move to it and back with ease.

Your swinging along you hit one that you think might not be right then you switch to your Iron program and if the Target ID number goes down then dig it. If the number goes up then walk on by. Of course nothing is perfect.
