when placing detector besides me to dig the select program switches on?

banditicey

New member
I have been experiencing this phenomena these past two days
I place the detector with a modified coin program on the ground next to me and when I pick up the detector
to continue hunting the screen has the first station on requesting select or save
I press the detect button and continue hunting
This has been happening almost every time I placed the detector down when digging in the past two days (that's alot of times)
I took great care to view if there was irritation or contact to the screen but there was none

Any ideas, just got the detector back from Mine lab and not that long ago

Sounds to me like you have that Minelab curse............You know where the detector just does not want to be put down!

You might try going through the save sequence again, I am assuming you have saved that program.

My kids are 16 and 20 and it's been awhile since I carried a crying baby and waited until it behaved:rolleyes:

Yes, I saved the program but next time the save or search comes on I'll try saving again and see if it works
Thanks for the suggestion, it is worth a try:confused:

Just a thought but are you useing alkiline batterys or a rechargable?
When I use the alkilines and set the detector down they lose contact for a millisecond or so and my detector will
shut itself down. The alkiline pod does'nt fit as well.If you just got it back recently though you may want to send it back asap. Hope this helps... Grumpy

I use the rechargeable
I realize that the prior troubles I experienced could have been shifting of the battery which causes
the shut off and on that caused me to send it in for repair in the first place
I am going to England in less than two weeks so I'll just have to handle it or figure it out
Thanks for the thought and suggestion

Or maybe a master reset.....?

Might try pulling the shaft out of the control housing about an eighth inch or so,
just to not bottomed out .

GOOD NEWS:super:

I believe the problem is the battery

I Spent all weekend detecting and feeling frustrated with the need to remind the Etrac it was on the program I was using

I did follow the suggestion to enter the program when prompted but the problem continued

Then I had to use a spare battery for our last hunt this evening because my regular battery needed to charge because
of the many hours of detecting over the weekend

When the last hunt was over and I was placing the detector in the car I realized that I
did not have the problem at all during this hunt and the only change was the battery

Thank You all for your interest and suggestions

That is good news!

What if you fold up a piece of paper small enough to act as a spacer between the battery and the rubber battery compartment door, like the "quarter fix" for the pro-pointer? Or just us a quarter instead of paper.

Thank You
It did happen again with the other battery yesterday but just once
I believe the battery shifts if there is contact/or a bump with the detector coil while searching or placing the detector down
So I will try either your suggestion or a friend suggested placing foam on the inside of the battery door
Either way it seems it is a shifting battery issue and I hope to correct the problem before England, the flight is Monday:blink:

Check the battery contact area of the battery pack (the 2 silver colored discs) they may be a little or a lot corroded (dark color) if so, clean them with a fresh pencil eraser, then apply a small amount of di-lectric grease to the contacts. I had the same problem with my battery packs on my Explorer II.......NGE
