When will we get a colour screen.(Fun thread but getting a bit long so I closed it),start a similar one if you like,Ray:smile:.

The brightness on the Vision screen is adjustable and when hunting into the darkness I found it necessary to adjust it down so it didnt blind me.. You can actually hold a coin up to the screen in the dark & read the date. My eyes arent very good anyway and the adjustable font size on the Vision was also a great feature along with being able to adjust colors to something you personally can view better..I fought the Etrac for several hours yesterday under some shade trees. When I turned on the light its so dim its hard to tell if it was on or not & of course everyone knows the screen is way to delicate for on something used in the field.. wildherre

In the next few years, we are going to see some big jumps in our detectors interfaces (Detectors are "second tier" reasons for CPU,LCD,battery development...like it or not.) and prices to our manufacturers will fall on the better components to bring amazing tech to us.(Like it or not.) The only thing that is different now is how fast the new tec, is falling from "first tier" to second. Product development/product release windows, is going to be a real hair puller for manufactures....you can bet!

Now was that really necessary?

The colour screen will not give any more information to the user over a mono screen.
The colour screen will suck the battery's down faster too.
Colour screens look very good i agree but at the end of the day i can guarantee that no more extra finds will come out of the ground.
Some thing with even better target ID is what would be nice , i mean the explorer's / e trac have the best discrimination you can get but some thing
even better would be much more nicer to have.

So an improved target id system AND a colour screen would be fantastic.

I don't care about color. I'd rather have all the $$ go into the detection technology!

What I want to know is when the E-Trac will let me play Solitare and check my facebook and email!

(sarcasm)

Well guys when we get our new [FULL COLOUR] F-track the ones that dont like the colour can keep their black and white ones.I went into a detector shop here in oz and told them that i had bought a detector with a colour screen and one of the salesman said to me they are no good and i might add he is a fisherman he has not owned a detector in his life . He said to me that he had a guy in the other day with this same brand and the guy could not work it out. So he had a go and he said to the guy no you cant do that with that detector. So i had mine in the car brought it and set it up and showed him yes it can do it. And i might add he had never seen one in his life before. In a nother case i rang him up and asked what depth can the pinpointer you sell get on a $2 coin and he said 5 inches So i went over to the shop and tried it out and it got the coin at less than than 2 inches. A little bit of knowledge is dangerous. I feel sory for the customers who get hood winked with things that are told. I WOULD NOT GO BACK TO THAT DEALER AGAIN. So guys dont knock detector brands until you have used them. Dont sit on the fence and say my detector is the best you dont know to you give it a go.

What is it that you can't see on the E-TRAC? You can make it fullscreen san't you?? and the digital screen has HUGE numbers. I put an anti-glare screen protector over my screen and I have no problems with it. I am 58 and wear bifocals and have other eye problems... I also have a V3 and love the colors, they are sexy but they are used to display the different frequencies... I can't see what the ET would use the colors for at least I can't see what could possibly justify the cost of adding color to a screen like the one on the ET.

Try a polarized anti-glare screen protector, I think it will fix you up.

The guys with colored screens are desperate to find some area of superiority over the competition it would appear. And if a colored screen makes them happy more power to them.I have to wonder how impressed the color blind folks are though:rofl:

No desperation here in finding the goods. (Wasn't doing any comparisons either.) Just saying that use of color is nice, opens up more info with future development (no matter what brand uses it) and it is coming......to all top machines. I'm done and leave wondering........... Battery life? Bla:devil:

I'll bet if each frequency had a different color, and those colors could be used to help determine was what in the ground by the way the different frequencies/colors were displayed, you'd sure be happy with a color screen.)

I experienced what you describe and after many hours usage found it to be mostly a waste of time on anything over 3"-4" depth just like most every one else:goodnight:It is a great tool for clad hunting/shallow jewelery for sure but I am only interested in old coinage and some relics.
It was a nice feature just not very effective at depth for me and a lot of the other forum members who posted to that effect ,Ray.
PS Interesting discussion but not sure what it has to do with the E-Trac and said forum.I as well as others find it amusing that this lightly veiled attempt at promoting a V3 feature on the E-Trac forum is being carried out  Perhaps I should make a post on the V3 forum asking when the V will have both ferrous and conductive ID capabilities and see what happens:devil:

for the hearing impaired(there are a few of us around) or those who can't immediately figure out what the numerical value or what the cursor on the screen is possibly telling them about a target. It's good, for a first time user maybe or one that just isn't capable of understand a detector eg: the Etrac...... but the color screen of any other detector is going to make it a better detector. You'd have to be really keen on figuring out how to use ANY detector in the first place so as to get any real benefits, especially from what it purports or suggests it can do if having a color screen will help in the first place and would give some advantage over a mono screen. Ultimately the find results would always speak for themselves and if you can muster the full potential of a detectors ability ....that's even better.

I would say yes to a detector with color id as part of it's ability, IF it was guaranteed to give a very close to 100% calculation of what it was detecting at any depth and especially at it's deepest detecting ability with out being affected when seeking good targets in trashy or adverse ground conditions.

So far, from what I have read and been told , the idea that color screens used in some metal detectors are bit of a gimmick that gives no REAL advantage to the detector's user over even single frequency detectors that have mono screens .(Some of the guys I know who have MXT's and know how to use them will give anyone a run for their money on what they can or cannot id without the need for color screen, even on some really deep targets. I think that, so far , the Etrac has given me some fairly accurate description on shallow and deep targets. What would a color screen done for me then? Not much unless it was going to be telling me that the color green on the screen is a gold target and the color red is an aluminium target and that it's in between and underneath those many ferrous objects...............at 14 inches

Now if it were possible.... that would be great!

An Etrac with any improvement would be welcomed. At the moment, for me and many others, it's fine as it is. Water proofing or the option for seperating the control box would have been a brilliant idea to.

From the information available around the www, it seems that it would be difficult to get a close to 100% id just by relying on single or multiple vlf,pi or whatever band of transmissions currently used in ALL mainstream detectors.

Thats why, I guess, Ground Piercing Radar(GPR) like the really SERIOUS stuff that is talked about in the following:

http://www.minelab.com/countermine/evaluations/f3

is possibly the only way it will go.....Then how much will it co$t for one of these?

I also don't think that the developers of mobile phones and other electronic devices, when looking for "improvements" where ever impeded by(other than not ever having the technology available) in moving into using color screens because they ever thought there would ever be a problem with weight or a reduced supply of battery power. The progress that has occurred, not the regress, speaks for itself.

I'll just about bet that the next E-Trac model out will have a color screen and maybe even wireless headphone capabilities. Maybe they might even make a brand new land detector different than the E-Trac that is colorized. I also think that the price tag will probably break or be very close to two grand. That may be a deterrent for them building them now but then again they are getting $5,500.00 for gold detectors. I think it is just a matter of time.

Do you have a color TV? You always could have a black & white you know? You have a choice and you choose color. Color screens do have a use even if it's just to make it look better. Case closed.

I have a very nice watch with a black & white liquid crystal readout that suits me very well and color would not make it one bit better. You need to realize that what constitutes an open and shut case to your way of thinking may very well NOT be case closed to many other folks. If color is so hot and looks better why are there thousands of black and white cars sold each year?
Function is the bottom line for me as well as many others no doubt. If I were into video gaming I might get more excited about color screens
I am sure color screens will be the wave of the future on most detectors and I have no problem with that at all.It is just that colored screens are way down on my list of what I consider to be important improvements to our machines.

Hey guys, It really makes me wonder what everyone did before screens, when all you had was a meter to stare at:lol::lol:. I have to admit when I owned a whites v3 I did think the screen was easier to see at a glance but, by no means is it a nessecity. I can also tell gold from pulltabs but I have to dig em first:rofl:. But really I am thankfull to have a detector that will give the info that they do.
