Where pennies are ringing in at:

Yesterday in very moist ground conditions I had pennies ringing in all over the place from as low as nickels to as high as 40. I was digging them because of their sounding like a coin which they were, but was hoping for something a little larger. Have been noise cancelling regularly, so that isn't the problem and the amount of sensitivity didn't seem to matter either. Does anyone have any ideas on what is going on with the pennies??? Did have a good day coin shooting including 5 nickels, but ended up digging an extraordinary large amt. of pennies because many weren't coming in at their normal range, but at 38 and "elsewhere" on many occasions. Guess I should be glad that the other denominations don't vary like the pennies do!

Here in Central Jersey, I'm finding that zincolns ring in at 35,occasionally 34,while pre-1982's will ring in 36-37 & once in while as 38 (if there's been recent rain).
IH pennies seem to be as expected 32,sometimes jumping to 33. Can't recall what the toasted "fattie' tid was.

I have been hunting in coin and jewelry mode and IH's ring 32-33, zincolns at 36-37 jumping to 38, wheats consistently run 34-35 here. BTW, my hunting partner found an 1853 seated half dime while we were hunting two weekends ago and it read a consistent 34 on my machine, but that was with it laying on the ground after he dug it. I found three V nickles, a mercury dime, one IH and a 1899 Barber quarter. I should probably post that. It is in, by far, the best condition of any Barber coin I ever found, not that I have lots of lots of them mind you.

When the ground is wet or moist pennies seem to come up 37-38 for me also.I think I'm digging a dime but out comes a pennie.A coins a coin.I dig them all.
