Which is better for coins E-TRAC or SAFARI ???

St Bernard

New member
I am interested in either detector the E-TRAC or SAFARI. What do you feel is the best one for coin and jewelry hunting. Another factor for me is detecting in high trash areas such as lake beaches, picnic grounds, old home sites and home steads, camp grounds city parks forest parks etc. Will the Safari do as good as the E-trac as far as the type hunting I like to due? I can step up to the E-Trac with no problem but if the Safari will also do it saves a few dollars. Also what coils do I want for coin and jewelry detecting and in high trash areas. I am not at this time interested in the new Equinox detectors until they are a proven detector and that some time. Feedback greatly appreciated.

Thanks Bill

Safari is a good machine, I had one for about a year and needed a bit more.
I felt target ID was lacking and the Discrimination lacked compared to the ETrac or CTX.
I went from the Safari to a CTX and it is what I was looking for.
I’ve never had any experience with the ETrack but I know it’s right beside the CTX in a lot of ways.
If I was buying a a detector today and did not want to spend the bucks on the ETrack or CTX I’d be buying a Equanox 800.
In fact I’m on a list to get one next month and plan on useing it for gold nugget hunting in Arizona and also for a backup or loaner .
Let us know what you decide on

My experience was the Etrac did much better. This of course was after learning the best settings for coin hunting in my soil areas with the Etrac.
I could not duplicate the results with the Safari.

I have had an Explorer SE and a Quatro and now have the E-Trac. The E-Trac is miles above either machine. Having the FE number helps me a lot and the ability to easily change patterns. For what used Safari's and E-Tracs are going for these days pay a little extra and get the E-Trac.

The E-Trac is king ! I mainly use a CTX 30/30 but actually prefer my E-Trac. It's just not waterproof and I hunt the beach.

The Safari is to the E.Trac what the Equinox 600 is to the Equinox 800 and what the X.Terra 305 is to the X.Terra 705 . A lesser model.

The E.Trac is way better for target info and has many more settings .

Dont forget the Safari is a different coloured Quattro with a Pro coil .

The Explorer was a higher model than the Quattro too .

I'd go with the E-TRAC and buy the 8x6 Detech SEF coil for the high trash areas. I select the "High Trash Density" and "Ground Difficult" settings and pull coins out of high trash areas all day long. Just go slow and listen!

In less trashy areas, don't go too-slowly, otherwise you will lose out on deeper-big coinage.... (Try it out on your next indicated deep find, and see what the effect of slow and quick sweeping has on response.).....matt.

The E-Trac is well worth the extra cost if you can "swing it" .

The E-Trac has Dual Target ID - a lighted display for hunting at night hunting ( I love night hunting ) - more setting options - etc.

Either one is a great machine but go with the E-Trac if you can.

Good Luck !

If you are hunting coins that are about 7 or 8 inches deep, or scanning the dry and wet beach sand ... it dont matter.
IMHO ... the E-Trac would be the machine to use for max depth detection in a field or park area.
If you intend to go hunting in shallow water (fresh or salt) then the Equinox would be the better choice.
You can buy a used E-Trac for less money than a new Equinox 800.

I chose the Etrac.
