Who bought a legend 2?

bigtim1973

Well-known member
I do not see many guys posting here much about the legend 2.

I just bought one and got it in today

First impressions are very good. Very well made. Decent size screen readout. Lighter weight than the manticore. The menu system is a bit complicated. 2 coils came with mine and that backpack as well.

Good recovery speed. Very similar control rod set up compared to the manticore but has a flat side on the control rods that helps keep the coil inline. Even the screw on the lower rod is almost exactly like the manticore.....I am not so sure this was a good idea as I really liked their set up on previous units....but as long as you don't swing it against tree trunks I think you will be fine.

It feels very comfortable while swinging it.

It started raining so I cannot take it out to my test bed yet. Will post a follow up comment after I do.

I like the new number scale too from 0 to 99.

If it performs anything like the original legend I owned I think it will be a very good machine.

I have noticed not many people are talking about it much.

I haven't been out since March, mostly because of the heat. Just have to get accustomed to the menu, for me its much easier to flow through it than L1..still enjoy my original legend.

I have not really dived into the menu just yet to get familiar with it. So far though I do like it better than the previous legend. I also like there will be a 9 inch coil available too. I have asked my dealer already about it but it is not available to ship just yet. It is a good light unit.

"I have done extensive head to head target depth comparisons between Legend 1 and Legend 2 in very magnetite and volcanic rock ground conditions. Those conditions may not be your conditions so think of this as a nearly worse case scenario. Legend 2 has repeatedly shown itself to be slightly deeper by 0.5" to 1" deeper (13 to 26mm) on coin sized targets. That depth means that Legend 2 has cleaner hits at the edge of detection and slightly better target ID too. That is comparing 11" coil vs 11" coil. The depth difference between Legend 1 12"X9" coil vs Legend 2 11" coil is definitely a win for Legend 2 by up to 3 inches sometimes from my experience.

I have found Legend 2 to be better at EMI handling than Legend 1.

Legend 2 is slightly better for gold prospecting than Legend 1 for ground handling and overall sensitivity comparing Legend 1's 9.5"X6" coil to Legend 2s 8"X5.5" coil.

So, with Legend 2 you get: a much more ergonomic, lighter, better balanced and easier to swing detector, longer internal battery life, backlit function keys (no more highlighting Legend 1's keypad with permanent markers) Relic mode, 15 much easier to navigate user profiles and the Default profile is almost like a user profile which automatically saves settings too, it's much easier to save a profile or erase it, there is a master reset of the entire detector by holding the power and pinpoint button at startup, 19 frequency shift channels instead of Legend 1's 13, a 3 tone and 99 tone option have been added, you get much easier to navigate icons that do not have sub or sub-sub menus, the pinpoint button does not have to be held down - just press it to go into pinpoint and press again to leave pinpoint, once you have centered the coil over the target during pinpointing the most accurate target ID is displayed, there is a flashing green light during charging which changes to a continuous green light when charging is done, 0 to 99 target IDs, you get the really good 11" coil and the 8X5.5" elliptical coil along with Bluetooth headphones and charging cables with your purchase so basically a Legend 1 Pro Pack, the external speaker sounds a lot better to my ears than Legend 1's speaker and so does all of the Bluetooth audio, the Bluetooth software update via an Android or Apple phone is incredible....the phone app will be available soon, 9" round and 15"X12" coils will be available in about 6 weeks from now, the waterproof external battery module will also be available in about 6 weeks, bone conduction headphones will be available very soon too. The original Nokta waterproof wired headphones work with Legend 2. Nokta are also making new waterproof wired headphones that will work with all of their waterproof detectors. These headphones will have much improved audio according to Dilek. Legend 1 charging cables, audio cable, wireless headphones and the Accupoint pinpointer will work with Legend 2. I may be forgetting something......

So all of those new features plus the totally new outward physical design which is much more than slightly better than Legend 1 along with some new internal hardware makes Legend 2 a very viable successor to Legend 1 in my opinion."

The only two negatives I have experienced since the latest software update are some excessive 3 second lag time when changing from one program to another and the pinpoint function on my test sample sometimes has no audio when I use it. It does show proximity scale activity and target ID changes but no audio. Exiting pinpoint and trying again usually fixes it.

There have been no software updates since I wrote the post above. Also there is no phone update app available yet. I don't know why this is the case.

Also, the accessory coils are listed on several dealer websites as in stock. New waterproof over the ear headphones and bone conduction ear buds are also in stock on some dealer websites.

I have found gold jewelry, silver jewelry and silver coins with Legend 2 as deep as 10" depth with the 11" stock coil. That's very impressive and competitive performance in the mineralized ground around here.

Sounds pretty good. But, not worth a grand at this time. Probably go that route if and when my Legend 1 bites it.

It’s worth a grand.
Legend 1 was worth that much too.

I watched your legend and legend 2 target ID comparison on YouTube.

I like the legend 2 very much. I keep my searching settings pretty simple...no bottle cap reject and full 99 tones on both park and field modes while running the G profile on the disc setting. I have not even tried the 11 inch stock coil on it yet...only the little elliptical.

It works better then the manticore did in my test bed using the m9 coil.

Now I am not knocking that manti with the m9 coil at all....I liked it....but this 8x5 coil and the legend 2 is lighter and hits harder on deeper targets in my mild soil.

I am very pleased with my purchase. When the weather breaks a bit I am going to take it for a real world spin.

I like the quick menu for the basic adjustments. I do wish they would have added the noise cancel function to the quick menu where the frequency and sensitivity settings are but I can live with it as it is.

I have noticed the little lag between settings but my pinpoint mode has worked great the whole time so far.

NOT taking away anything from the original legend but the improvement they did with legend 2 in with just the tid scale going to 99 was worth the upgrade if you ask me.

I have not even noticed the touchpad lights up as well.....that's awesome!!!

Hey Jeff, how do those smaller coils on the L2 do on tiny gold vs. the 6" on the L1?

That 6" coil gives a decent signal at a couple inches on a 0.03g flake, but the 9.5x6 coil barely registers a piece that small on the original machine. Wasn't sure if the lack of a puck-sized coil for the L2 would limit it for the small stuff?

The smaller Legend 2 elliptical coil does really well on sub 0.1 gram gold. It does detect the lower carbon fiber shaft a bit but it is very sensitive in prospecting mode.

I liked the Legend 1 6” coil for gold prospecting. It had rear mounted coil ears so it would not detect the CF lower shaft.

I didn’t like the Legend 1 LG 24 coil for gold prospecting much since it would detect the carbon fiber lower shaft easily.
