Why is the Etrac's processor so slow?

Was out tonight for awhile and run across a screaming 10-16. 3-4 sweeps one direction, switched directions since 10-16 is not anything I was planning on digging to see if anything changed, 3-4 more sweeps and I decided I was going to see what made such a racket. Hit with my pin pointer and a quarter flipped up. The last swing it finally registered a12-46. I had just run a factory reset because of all the 1 signal only signals I was getting. It is ridiculous how slow the machines are. Any reason why?

I totally agree....I watch a numberless screen quite often also, Plus the 10-16 hi-tone... exactly what you described... The numbers aren't matching the tone and If it wasn't for the tone I would wait and move on.

I am totally green to the Etrac as well but have been really frustrated by the same thing. Last night I had a blank screen on way too many occasions. It seems like the numbers "stick" until I remove the coil from the target, then the number changes. After the numbers change and go to re-sweep the target, the number sticks again on whatever it jumped to when I moved it away from the target.

I see video after video of the screen updating with each swing and mine just won't do that. Is it a setting? Is there something wrong with our machines?

Hope a guru can jump in and help on this one!!

Dave

The etrac will not reset or recalibrate the numbers until you hear a threshold tone. Sometimes I have to lift the coil to get a threshold then set it back over the target to get an update....One more item for the folks at Minelab to consider in newer machines

It was really out of whack yesterday and I was using manual sens. off and on and I was thinking maybe that was it while I was in manual....Were you other guys in manual or auto sens. or do you think it didn't matter??

I agree with 1goldsniper.Does anyone have a problem with pinpointing? I can be in an area about 2ft, and I have had signals dropped and when I re sweep one sweep they are there and swinging back they drop out. I have found a good target amongst trash and I have to remove some trash before I get the tone of a good signal again. Now I know that if your over a target when you go to pinpoint mode the target is blanked out.But when I find a target I have to dig surrounding trash or I have to sweep several times in several directions because that's the only way I can be sure if I have found a good target or not. What I have noticed if I don't do it that way I know that I'm missing things.

Check to see if you have it set on pitch hold instead of normal...just a thought.

Even if my threshold comes and goes in real trashy areas the machine will still hit on targets. You have to SLOW down in those trashy places or try TTF. If you have too much discrimination it can make a difference in the processors recovery speed. Go to the Quick Mask screen if it is open and see if that helps. Maybe noise cancel again. My E-Trac does'nt do what you are describing so I am just making these suggestions. I had a different brand that did that crap unless I was in the woods and that is why I went to Minelab a few years ago. Hope you get your machines straightened out. Good luck. HH :minelab:

I dont know if that was causing it but every electrical device I can remember using says do not mix battery types.

I had been using the spare AA battery pack the past 2 days and that is when mine started to act up like earlier mentioned. I use Duracell rechargeable and a while ago I went outside with the main battery pack and it worked fine with no problems. I remember a few weeks ago I used the back up pack and I was having problems then. 95% of the time I use the main sealed pack and I never noticed an issue. I believe my E-trac id allergic to the 8 AA pack for some reason. All the 8 AA batteries are Duracell recharge but one of them says precharged charged on it but they all are rechargeables. I wonder if anyone else has had a problem with the AA pack.

Dang that is what it is doing!

So that is why people do TTF? Because if you don't all the nulls will actually keep stuff from showing up. I know that it nulls stuff out, but actually having to go to a blank threshold to clear is something else. Or does hitting a non discriminated target clear it too, I guess not because that is what we are trying to get it to register in the first place...

Possibly going over a very large iron object in the ground???

I have not had any of those problems....actually mine is amazingly fast and reliable.

I taped up my stealth X-5" and put it back on and went back out today and every thing was back to normal. But I didn't spend much time detecting as the flood waters were rising around and in the park and I figured it probably didn't look to good me detecting while the rest of the town is wondering when to start sand bagging. Thanks again for all the comments and thoughts. That is the great thing about this forum. Some where in the problem was user error I am sure.

I've noticed that my etrac does this as well but it seems to be mainly when the battery is getting low. Also.....,if I'm not mistaken, I read that rechargeable batteries were not to be used in the back up battery pack. Will have to look back at the manual to find out why, I don't remember the reasoning only that regular batteries only were to be used in the back up.

The reason is that some rechargeables run at a higher voltage thus in total exceed the power limits of the etrac. Sometimes, too much power...isn't a good thing.

NOT TRUE, you can use car 12V battery- etrac will work half a year without problem. I used 12V small accumulator, when its charged its can be 13,8V.
about slow processor is absolutely true, but its not processor but basic FBS construction that makes detector slow-only one way is to use TTF and play with sensitivity: trash lower, clean higher. good luck
