When this has happened to me I've played with the settings a bit, going between an open quick mask (which is generally what I search in most of the time because I'm looking in very trashy areas a lot) to a modified coin pattern and to displaying the large numbers with the pattern window smaller. Sometimes switching from one setting to another works and the numbers show, sometimes not. I'm wondering if it could have something to do with heat. It's been in the 90's here lately, very hot/sunny and humid. Could the etrac's electronics be getting too hot and this slowing the recovery time down? Would be awesome if it had a little fan on the processor inside like a computer does.......

NOT TRUE, you can use car 12V battery- etrac will work half a year without problem. I used 12V small accumulator, when its charged its can be 13,8V.
about slow processor is absolutely true, but its not processor but basic FBS construction that makes detector slow-only one way is to use TTF and play with sensitivity: trash lower, clean higher. good luck
