Why is the Etrac's processor so slow?

You are swinging it too fast more than likely I'd say. One thing the ETrac does very good is pick everything in the ground up that is metal. Most all machines more than likely call several pieces of metal in a very small area one object. The ETrac separates them very good. You are seeing it at it's best. Let the machine teach you not you teach it. Learn from it and you will be astounded.

Personally, I "swing" my coil quite slowly so I'm certain that this is not causing the lack of numbers in my particular case. When this has happened to me I've played with the settings a bit, going between an open quick mask (which is generally what I search in most of the time because I'm looking in very trashy areas a lot) to a modified coin pattern and to displaying the large numbers with the pattern window smaller. Sometimes switching from one setting to another works and the numbers show, sometimes not. I'm wondering if it could have something to do with heat. It's been in the 90's here lately, very hot/sunny and humid. Could the etrac's electronics be getting too hot and this slowing the recovery time down? Would be awesome if it had a little fan on the processor inside like a computer does.......

I thought the same about the heat...here in DFW Tx it has been 95 to 99 every day for 2 weeks . Very good possibility.

The reason is that some rechargeables run at a higher voltage thus in total exceed the power limits of the etrac. Sometimes, too much power...isn't a good thing.

NOT TRUE, you can use car 12V battery- etrac will work half a year without problem. I used 12V small accumulator, when its charged its can be 13,8V.
about slow processor is absolutely true, but its not processor but basic FBS construction that makes detector slow-only one way is to use TTF and play with sensitivity: trash lower, clean higher. good luck

If you read the manual....it will tell you that exceeding tthe power limits is not recommeded and will void the warranty.

Me neither.... I mostly use a moified relic pattern and TTF... I hear and see everything... and FAST. I've dug things other deteectors would not correctly ID (the ETs CO number is almost always correct). Many times I will only get a signal from one direction but if the CO number stays on something that is good... I'll dig, I dug two carved bullets one day that only gave a 33/34 CO number from one direction... but it was consistant from that direction.
The Relic Pattern (slightly, very slightly, enlarged is pretty much the only discrimination I ever use, it will work with CO sounds too if there isn't too much trash... and you won't miss anything. The processor is lightning fast to me... of course I dont swing fast and I dont swing slow... just a normal swing. I don't think about my swing except to keep the coil level with the ground. With the relic pattern it will null on most iron but it will come off it fast if you hit something else... in fact it will signal the accepted target and ignore the disc'd target, that is what the manual says too... and Andy's book too. I usually run fast on/ deep on and auto+3 with no problems and I use pitch hold, that is something they brought over from the Sovereign, it helps you to hear some slight, small hit you might otherwise miss.

No problems here.

When I had the Safari I noticed the display could lag behind the sound, even go blank momentarily, but no such problems with my E-Trac.

You mentioned that you have changed the relic pattern just a little. Do you think it is critical enough to make the changes or not?

I noticed the same thing about TID not refreshing quickly. I had a post about it a little while ago. Didn't find a straight forward remedy:

I have also had the screen go blank for a short time. I think it happens mostly for me when there is a lot of targets and I may be swinging a little too fast. It is almost like the processor is overloaded and needs time to catch up. I wait it out for a few seconds and all is well. Remember your older computers that had small amounts of RAM. It seems a lot like that to me.

Probably not, it is just slightly enarged in proportion to what it alrady was. I did not make it, it was "Jason's Relic Pattern" but I don't know if it is still on here. (JasonTN)

I have the exact same frustrations and thought I was doing something wrong-thank you for the psychotherapy. I am having problems with depth as well most finds are in the 1-5 inch range anything beyond that is iffy while running coins in auto plus 3. I tried TTF and am having problems with target isolation-most parks I hunt are somewhat trashy. I tried listening to tones and find the 35 -48 ring just as nice as a 12-48s. After digging a ton of trash I find my self digging confirmed targets while passing over the iffy signals. I just found a 61 Washington down perhaps five inches and barely dug it because the numbers and tones were all over the place. The only reason I dug it is because I was able to get it to repeat a few times in different directions. Any thoughts/tips/advice are appreciated.

im real new to the etrac as well and sometimes it IS frustrating....but when you get a good reading like that, that repeats a few times, ive found it to be a coin most of the time. at 5" a silver quarter should ring out good, (i have a 6" quarter in my test garden) i would guess there were multiple targets in the area, or the coin might have been on edge. you were getting a combination of readings from the etrac, not just from the quarter. you were able to partially isolate the quarter reading, and you dug it.
