Why should I buy an E-Trac?

I want to know why I should have an E-Trac....and I am interested in your opinions. I have a V3i and am in the process of learning to use it.....but what would make me want an e-trac? What are the advantages versus what I already am using?

Not wanting to start any wars here....but I am just wanting opinions as to why I should try one versus the other. Thanks folks.....oh.....and hurry with your responses....because there is a nice used one on the classifieds....

Just stick with what you have. The V3i is an excellent detector as well and some say it'll do more when learned properly. It just has a different learning curve. I found the Etrac easier to learn. Your V3i will do everything an Etrac will do and maybe more. It's hard enough to learn and be proficient with just one of these detectors.
 
You shouldnt have told us that......I needed a back up machine!!:poke: In all seriousness I have never used the v3i but heard it is a bit difficult to learn on. The etrac has a learning curve for some and for others it is a turn on and go machine. Im a little from the middle of the road coming from never using a detector before my etrac. It wasnt a bad learning curve at all. Oh and I have a slew of pretty awesome finds from during my learning curve. Try it out, what do you have to lose. You can always sell it and get your money back if you dont like it. The second hand market for etracs is pretty darn good. Good luck.
 
ok .....thanks for the answer....I have yet to find a silver coin and have been detecting for a couple years now.....seems like all I read about is E-trac users bringing home the silver.....I have found some 1700's copper coins.....but the silver seems to elude me......when i dig my first silver...regardless of what it is....I will be.....crazy!
 
I had a V3i for a year and a half and my biggest regret was not selling it and getting and E-trac sooner. The V3i is a great detector well built and deep but it still has Whites "honest audio" target masking problems and from my experience very poor ground tracking. If your mainly a coin hunter the E-trac is going to be hard to beat.
 
explorer 2 is just as good or better as etrac for half the dough. i paid double for a used etrac than exp 2 and etrac isnt as good. ready to sell the etrac. it is good but at 1400 + is it really that good? i just don't see it. i have only used explorer 2 for 6 weeks and like it better than etrac i had for 6 months. the explorer 2 was a 1000 -1200 detector back a few years ago, so at todays market that would be equal to price of etrac. etrac does have that link to the computer that everyone uses though, thats the only big difference to me. If you can, I would encourage you to seek out another experienced V3i user and shadow him/her to see and compare what they are doing. This thread will likely get pulled, but just thought I'd throw that idea out there for you. The E-Trac looks complicated at first and the sounds. Man I remember my first hour with the thing in Multi-tone at a park. I was glad I was alone. So I can see how the V3i could be intimidating as well. If you've found old copper with your V3i, the most likely you just haven't passed over the silver.

I have a former MXT user detecting buddy who upgraded to a V3i, was severly dissapointed with it, sold it, tried my E Trac, loved it, bought one, and now is happy as a little girl. Because of this forum's policy I don't expect this thread to last long.
Oh well.
 
My friend kid silver just picked up a V3. Took a couple hunt before he finally found some silver, but then he knocked off four mercs in one hunt.

Seems to be a very capable machine with a steep learning curve.

Be patient young grasshopper. :nono: Dont give up too quickly.

there just isnt enough space here to write why you should buy an etrac i have had two detectors before and my finds have been rubbish lol now i have the etrac i have found relics coins and i am addicted so do yourself a huge favour and buy one and have some real FUN WHOOOOPEE advice form the uk happy hunting
 
I am definitely not out to start a brand war, I am in the first couple years of learning detecting...and I started with some beep and dig machines and they were great, found tons of stuff, however now that I have "gone off the deep end" and gotten into machines that are a little more technical....I stand back and watch and I am amazed at the amount of deep silver that the e-trac's are pulling out of the ground. I dont hear the same thing from people who have the same machine I do...I constantly hear about the "learning curve" and how sophisticated it is. I like it.....I am finding things with it...and I have a mentor....however I am still wondering if I made the right choice....and if I should just stick with what I have and learn it's every capability?....thank you all for your ideas and opinions, I certainly appreciate ya'alls help.

Location, location, location John, the silver will find you one of these days, trust me. It is no secret that I'm a Minelab guy as well as a V3i user. There are advantages with each machine whether it's an E-Trac or Explorer and for deep silver hunting I would also prefer a Minelab with their unmistakable audio ID on the silver, but do they go deeper, naw. The only way to convince yourself if ANY machine is right for you is to try one and devote your time to learn it. If you don't like it, sell it and move on. Do I think you are missing silver that the E-Trac would have found, naw on that too. There is more in the ground to find than deep silver and that is where the detector you are using really shines.

I wouldn't judge which machine is better by what other people post for a lot of reasons.
 
Thanks Larry I do appreciate your advice. I like my machine that I have, and have already made some nice finds with it. I am reading all I can and starting to understand it better, I am just frustrated I guess. I guess it's kind of like a 16 year old kid getting a souped up camaro as a first car....more than I know what to do with....I will keep on diggin....thanks again Ya'all.

If you are getting frustrated, you are missing the biggest advantage of metal detecting and that is hunt for the fun of it. relaxation, fresh air and the opportunity to clear your head for a few hours at a time. The treasures we find is just a bonus to the inner peace that is found between the ear muffs. :detecting:
 
You are right again...I will tell you this much....when I do finally find some "deep silver"....You will probably hear me holler from Illinois!

My good friend uses a V3i and we hunt side by side. I have seen it pluck many beautiful relics out of the dirt; It is an awesome machine! The only thing is, apparently the V3i has a larger learning curve when compared to the E-Trac.
