Wire Problem With 6" Excellerator Coil ?

The curled part of the coil wire on the 6" Excellerator coil I just got is larger in diameter than the wire on my 10 x 12 SEF coil - because of the bigger diameter wire on the Excellerator coil - it really jams up inside the upper and lower legs - makes it a real tough to collapse the lower leg - anyone else have this problem ?

I have the same problem. I took the thing apart and figured out that was the problem as you described.

Not a big deal for me, as I really like the six inch coil. I prefer it even to the 4.5 x 7 that I have. My opinion is based on limited use of both, and honestly I got a great deal on a used sun ray x-8 that I like even better than the two excelerators. I find myself pretty much just using the sun ray now.

how do you think the 10 x12 sef compares to the stock coil?

It's typical on most aftermarket coils. There is a trick to make it ez. Take the two shafts apart. Start the coil wire on the lower. Now hold coil in one hand shaft in the other. Now "flick the shaft" and the wire will run though.

i bought an extra lower and upper shaft to put the little coil on makes changing coils a snap 30 seconds
i used a string to feed the wire through
i have the same problem with the expansion and contraction of the rods i just leave it where i want it

This is a common difficulty. I keep a boot shoelace in my pack of possibles and tie it to the loop then just feed it and pull. Curcar above says the same thing,

Hey guys, I think all e-trac coils are a pain trying to thread them through the inside of the shaft. This is one reason I'm thinking of getting a sunray probe then the wire will be on the outside. HH

I have the same problem with my 6" excelerator coil. When it is off I make sure to pull the curled wire into the lower rod so that hopefully the it will tighten slightly.

I tied a small nut on a string and dropped it through the leg - then pulled the wire through.
And yes - I'm planning on getting another lower leg ASAP..

The problem you have I guess everybody has!The trick is once you get the wire up thru and threaded on is to pull the two shafts apart and turn the lower shaft clockwise or counter clockwise I can't remember which way (since my detector is off to the Dr.) but one way will tighten up the coils in the wire leaving enough room to than slide the two shafts together as far as possible.
