You just NEVER KNOW - EPIC DAY

You just never know!

I have pounded this orchard for a couple of years finding the occasional button or bullet never finding a coin.

It was a special day with my "new" hunting buddy who I introduced to metal detecting last year. He is using my Tejon and is learning it. He found a 1944 washington qtr about 100 yards away in the same location. His first silver ever and I was very happy for him. He was pumped.

The sun was setting and my boy and bud had already headed back to the vehicle. I was working my way back as they came over to hang with me. I told them we would leave after one more target. I got a signal and dug some lead. OK DONE, lets go. By now we were 50 yards from the truck and I was still swinging on the way back and about 10 steps from the last signal I got another. I cut the hole with the shovel and pinpointed with my Garrett PP. I brushed some dirt away and saw a glint of gold and slammed my hand over the hole to hide it. I couldn't believe what I saw and my buddy said. "Is that what I think it is?". I still had my hand covering the target as I was savoring the moment. I slowly pulled my hand away and sure enough, it was gold but we couldn't tell what though. My boys eyes were as big as pancakes as i gently pulled the coin from the ground.

I have been metal detecting for 37 years and this is my first gold coin. I may never find another and that's ok. To dig this in the presence of my son and hunting buddy was a priceless moment I will cherish forever. They enjoyed it as much as I did. The sun was setting as we drove off. All of us with big ass smiles on our faces. It has been a great 2 weeks in my metal detecting career.

Congrats ArnieTX,thats the way to do it. You've hooked a new detertorist for good. Great fine I'm still looking.

WOW a $5.00 CC gold coin  A day you will always remember for sure. Congratulations on a beautiful gold coin!

It hit between 5-30 and 12-30. Once out of the ground it is a solid 12-30.

Was hunting in TTF. I estimate it was 5" deep and almost perfectly flat.

Wow!! Unforgettable day for sure. Very happy for you:clapping:!!!

GREAT COIN!!

Good talking to you just now! The more we talked the more excited I was to come look at it. Very cool find! Congrats!

Still on cloud nine. You could not wipe this smile off my face all day today.

My boy was so pumped up Santa ordered him a Garrett AT Gold today from the chief elf over at Big Boys Hobbies. He's mastered the Tesoro Compadre and is ready for some serious digging soon.

I appreciate the kind words and congrats from everyone. It was truly and unforgettable moment in my life.
