Looks like many of us are new to the Safari ....at least I am anyway.

So everyone can learn from others how about posting your favorite settings.
If you can be as specific as possible we can learn from each other!

Thanks for sharing !!

Larry- I've been using factory settings for the 2 months that I've owned the Safari. I hope to bring something more to the table after I hopefully get Andy's book for Father's Day and can utilize the save program options with confidence. HH

Hi ! .... thanks for responding. That's all I am doing at the moment as well.

I can't even order Andy's book because its not in stock. Bummer!

Keep us posted and Happy Hunting to you!

Larry

I started with factory settings to learn the tones and IDs. For the type of targets I seek I am now hunting in the "All Metal" mode with 0 Thur -10 blocked out, using conductive tones because I prefer the ascending sounds. I want to learn to use my eyes and ears to discriminate mainly because gold targets seem to hit all over dependant on the size, shape, and quality. I believe most users finally opt for the "All Metal" route once they feel comfortable with their machine.

Good Hunting! Q

Q ....

Hunting in all metal sound like a good way to go!
I think the tones are setup in all metal (F) ...

How do we set that up to do all metal in Conductive tones.

THanks for your help!

Open your coin or coin/Jewelry program, then accept all numbers -10 thru 40, then press and hold the All Metal button until it saves. Now you have an all metal program saved that will have Icons only with Conductive Tones.
You can also save in the Coin or Coin/Jewelry Mode, the only difference is you will have Icons.
The plus of having saved under All metal is you can toggle between the two programs and check the target with Conductive tones vs Ferrous Tones.
You can save one custom program under each Factory Program Button.
As far as settings go, for me I never use Auto Sensitivity.
In fairly clean sites that have a minimum of trash I run disc at reject -10 thru -4. I created the custom program in Coin and cross saved it into Relic as I don't like Icons. Then from time to time I will toggle to the factory relic program and check using Ferrous tones, but I prefer Conductive. This is very much user preference. I have dug some really cool kids toys with a reading of -3.
I hunt parks so I always run in High Trash Density but very much prefer the way the machine responds in High vs Low anyway.
As far as discrimination goes, this varies from site to site for me. A super trashy site loaded with pull tabs could drive you crazy, so there may be times when you want to use more. For me it depends on how much time I have and my mood.
Happy hunting
Dan C

I just got a Safari a few days ago But I must be doing something wrong because when I do as Dan-c says, when I cross save I don't have Icons I have vdi.s (numbers) and I did the same thing in relics and its still numbers
Thanks,:detecting:

Cache Man: Try this Press relic mode. Now press and hold the touchpad associated with the coin/jewelery search mode. Release the touchpad when the message SAVED appears. This will give you ferrous sounds with icons. Reverse this method and you will have conductive sounds and icons in relic mode. Dan-O told you right just hold the selected search mode button down until SAVED comes up then release button. May take a few times but you can customize a program for what ever situation you are hunting in. Hope this helps. HH :minelab:

I have tried this three times I do get the ferrous sounds but with numbers and no icons, I can still cross check a targets like this Thanks.:detecting:

I bought a copy of Andy Sabisch's book on the Quattro a few months ago from Joe DeMarco. I think he has more. It has been very helpful with my Safari.
