Test Garden and the NEL BIG on the ATP

I planted a test garden for club members on a members property. Planted a Zinc, and Copper Pennies, a clad Nickel, Dime and Quarter at 4 and 6 inches. A 57 Silver Dime and a 43 Silver War Nickel at 8 inches. Plan to add more next weekend. The NEL BIG coil easily detected them all. Freshly...

    My Post Got Moved!?

Did a test of the NEL "BIG" coil at the beach. Posted the results here, but it was moved. It was dome with my ATP and why I posted here. If you want to read it you'll have to search for it.

    NEL "BIG" Coil, beach test.

Let me start by saying this not a scientifically accurate test. I marked a dowel rod with 4, 8, 12 and 15 inch marks and buried coins(one at a time) at those depths. Coins were flat on the bottom of the hole, covered and the sand tamped firmly down to level with the top of the hole. In Pro...

    Button???

Found this one last weekend in an area that once had an oil boom town. Believe I was at where some sort of shop was located. I am not sure if it is part of a button or something else. It's slightly larger than a dime and appears to have snapped onto another part.

    Is it a Bullet??

Found this on a site in Old Brazoria, Tx. It's were many of the first Americans settled after immigrating to Texas in 1821. It weighs 6 grams, the same as the reproduction .36 caliber bullet pictured with it. I can't figure how it ended up in a bowl shape. Another was found by a hunting...

    NEL "BIG" coil. First use.

I used the BIG for the first time Saturday for a few hours. Almost the entire day Sunday. It was heavy, but I was able to manage it by changing hands when needed. A slower swing speed helps as well. The coverage eliminates the need for a fast swing anyway. I actually had to retrain myself...

    Store Token, my First!

This was my only good find today. Hunted a ghost town from the oil boom days.

NEL "BIG" Coil. What to Expect??

I ordered the BIG coil made by NEL from The Gold Digger last night. It shipped today. I was impressed by that. Now if UPS will deliver it while I'm home. I was wondering what to expect? How much depth will I get over the stock 8.5x11 inch coil. I saw the youtube posted by NEL and if I...

    1918 Walking Liberty

I found this one, a first for me, in a lot on Saturday. Found in an old part of town, in a lot about 125 X 75 foot in size and three of us have found a total of 16 silver coins. I learned quite a bit with this one. The designers initials are on it.

    Slow Month....

I haven't detected much last month. The lack of a measurable amount of rain made the ground as hard as rock, and the three beach hunts turned up sooo little as to make a fourth trip undesirable. But a few days ago we started getting rain .08", .14, .18.etc, enough to soften the ground. So I...

    Finally!! Rain and Softer ground

After months we finally received enough rain (.80") to soften the ground. Been hitting the beach a little though. Hunted the edge of the soccer fields, now that the season is over, and picking up some clad, 1979 Penney being the oldest so far. Did pick up this special Penney which I dug...

    Garrett Museum

Garrett has no information about the Museum on their website. Anyone have any info about it?

    Moisture content and depth.

It's been very dry here. Even with the small shower the other day, which didn't even seem to wet the soil. The soil is either VERY hard or dust foe and inch or two, then very hard, except in a few spots like under clumps of trees. There it's just dry, very dry, and crumbles to small chunks...

    Do You have goals?

I set little goals. I'd like to find a V Nickle, Barber Dime and Barber Quarter. After those I'll set new goals. Those are really hard coins to find here, so I may be at it for some time.

    My first half dollar!!

Went back to the school that keeps on giving. And, It gave some more. About 20 minutes into an hour and a half hunt I got a solid 91 vdi, high tone, at 6 inches. I knew exactly what that was! But was surprised that it wasn't. Usually dig a silver ring when the vdi hits 91, but this was just...
