    Stirrup I.D.

On the bottom side of the foot portion of the stirrup. Needed a loop to see them through the rust. The second stirrup has no markings. The size of the second one makes me think it is a ladies side saddle stirrup but just a guess.

    Stirrup I.D.

The first stirrup I believe I have identified correctly. A cavalry stirrup from 1911-12 and marked B.M. Co. U.S. The last 2 pics of the second one is an enigma. They were both found by my brother-in-law on a knoll with no previous settlement. No homestead site. No other associated artifacts...

If you could only USE the ???

I can’t speak for the CTX but can for etrac. I also can’t beat jmaclen’s excellent response. Compared to the etrac the manticore: 1. Much, much faster target response and separation. Therefore it also alerts you to more targets. 2. It is deeper detecting and also indicates smaller...

    Manticore Clear Screen Protector Installation

My fix. Cleaned the original screen REALLY well. Then had my wife install the screen protector. She has better eyesight, dexterity and patience. I believe this “experience” is from applying nail polish, fake nails, mascara and all the other products women install on their bodies. Besides if...

Buck fifty in silver finds today.

That is AMAZING!!! Who can say they have found a silver dollar AND a half coin spill and they were stuck together? Not many I bet. Do you think they were just missed in a unhunted corner? They gave an override signal on other detectors? People thought they were an aluminum can signal?

    Sundays finds

Darn. That was a good day. I just LOVE pastures. Usually no commercial fertilizer like ag land. Sometimes minimal cultivation to damage artifacts. That 2 cent piece is a beauty!!! Then throw in the Indian and Barber. That is 2 of my favorite coins and one of my bucket lister’s in ONE...

Identification of what my wife believes isn't a rock

Olivine is a mineral which could be a part of the source rock. Basalt sometimes contains olivine along with other minerals like pyroxene and plagioclase feldspar.

Identification of what my wife believes isn't a rock

I believe so. The columnar shape is caused by molten(igneous) rock(basalt) when it cools. Then that rock could be subjected to intense heat and pressure creating a hornfel which is metamorphic rock. Much like slate is created by subjecting shale to extreme heat and pressure. This is just my...

Identification of what my wife believes isn't a rock

This is one of the reasons I felt it could be a hornfel as it can be formed from an igneous rock such as basalt. I am confident it is not basalt but could very well be a metamorphic rock created from it. The grain structure appears to be altered via metamorphism. Another indicator is...

Identification of what my wife believes isn't a rock

Possibly a Green Hornfel rock. It is a metamorphic rock formed from intense heat and pressure. Common protoliths that can produce green hornfels include sedimentary rocks such as shale and sandstone, as well as igneous rocks like basalt and granite.
