    Brass whatzit

Found this nice little brass object at an antique store recently. I just liked the looks of it. Initially I thought it might be for holding rolls of stamps, but although a roll does fit in the well it does not seem like that is the intended application. Then I thought maybe it is an inkwell...

    Weird find

I was beach hunting just south of the 2nd Avenue pier in Myrtle Beach last Sunday when I turned up what I thought was a dog tag, but turned out to be a crematorium ID tag. Being inquisitive I contacted Woodward Funeral Home who basically is the Central Ohio Crematory and the lady I spoke to...

    Waterproofing the headphone module?

Like many of you, when I bought my CTX it came with the Koss non waterproof headphones. I mistakenly thought that the screw cap at the back of the module would make it waterproof. Not so as pointed out in the manual and by others in the forum, the screw cap is merely a dust cap. So, what to...

Anticipation can lead to frustation part 2

To those of you interested in my last venture at this site and had encouraged me to return, I was able to get back there New Years Day with James (James Bondaka) seen on the left and Mark (Scrounger) on the right who were both visiting from out of state. We spent four hours at the site and Mark...

Finally a ring, but could use some help

After several months of finding clad and not much else I found this 925 blue sapphire ring today. The ID was bouncing between 34 and in the 20s, so I decided to dig it. Thought it would be a penny, but to my happy surprise it was a ring. I intially thought it was just junk (and it still might...

    Thankful for the opportunity

Headed up to the Cape San Blas, Fl area with my wife and the Safari where we rented a house for the week on Port St. Joe Beach. Never hunted these beaches so I was excited about what they might yield. Hunted Port St Joe, Mexico Beach, and St Joseph Peninsula Park. St Joseph is a state park...

    Anticipation can lead to frustration

Literally worked for months getting permission to search this old church/home site. Had to get permission from the church board, etc. Got permission as long as this one guy is on the property when I detect. Ok, no problem. Finally the day arrives that I have anticipated for nearly a year...

    Shaft problem

The upper shaft clip on my Safari no longer holds the lower shaft in place. The lower shaft slips up and down which is annoying. I have tried putting a piece of electrical tape around the lower shaft, but it just gets eaten by the upper shaft. I have tried spraying the lower shaft with...

    Florida ghost towns?

I have never hunted a ghost town and I would think that it would be a lot of fun. Attached is a photo of Center Hill, FL which appears to be largely deserted. I would like to hunt the median area at the right, but would have no idea who to ask for permission. Anyone else have some Florida...

    Thought I had something

... but on closer inspection it was just junk. Still, it is always a thrill to find a ring as they have been sparse this year. Anyone else out there find something that they first thought was great only to learn it wasn't?

Finally a decent day at the beach

It has been pretty dismal on the beach of late. Found 11 quarters and a dime in a 25 yard by 25 yard area yesterday in an hour and a half which was pretty unusual. These coin "pockets" are getting harder to find and it takes some luck to stumble onto one.

Help with ID on this find

I found this at an old semi-pro baseball park in Central Florida some years ago. I initially thought it was a belt buckle, but the back of it made me think it was some sort of device that is attached to something. It is 1 1/2" square. I had thought that Dominion might be an old baseball team...

    Coincidental finds

The earring on the left was found six months ago and the one on the right, part of it anyway, was found about a week ago basically in the same area of the beach. I was wondering if anyone else has recovered similar items that got separated then were reunited?

    ID this rock

Found this rock lying in the grass in St. Augustine, Florida. Looked out of place for that area. Thinking it might be chert. Anyone know?

    Larger coil?

Most of my detection is on the beach. I have the stock dd coil. Some of the of the fellow detectorist use large coils. Asking you other beach bums what the advantage is, other than scanning a larger area. Considering investing in one. What are some of the good ones out there? Pluses...
