A little advice from US Members!

Hi Guys Managed to get some time off work and plan to come to Hawaii in January - flights booked from Jan 8 - 25. Any thoughts if I want to detect where to visit? Both islands? One Island? One beach ? Was planning the Xcal and ATX...... Normally for me in the water with Snorkel etc Dale

This few days....gold and silver return to the scoop!

Back into detecting and the tide and sand seems to have shifted in my favour! Recent finds....4x 9ct gold (some fairly decent ones) - oldest engraving is 1982. 4 silver also! Will post shortly last week's finds and also an update from my island trip. Finally good to have some decent time...

A long time with no posts - sorry guys!

Well....another year has passed. For varying reasons (mainly too busy at work) I simply have not had time to post on the forum....I will make it my new years resolution to try and sort that out! I have been very slack! The detecting here in NZ was pretty tough in 2016 due to the overall...

107....108 and 109 (gold rings) and we are... Done for 2016

Two days ago had my final "water detect" for the year, yielding a small 9ct and CZ female ring and a lovely old hallmarked ring (quite large with the hands and heart). Thought I was done for the year until a detecting window opened this evening on a fairly trashy beach on the shore. After an...

    102, 103,104,105,106......

For those in the know..... Had a successful hunt with the ATX and 8 inch mono - circa 1.5m deep water a mixture of sanded in areas and other erroded areas at a very "old" beach here in NZ. Adding the last 3 today! Also - a very unusual find - hallmarks from the late 1800's - a silver...

    Target achieved ;)

Hi guys! Thanks to the ATX and Garrett for a great year detecting! Almost wrapping up the year with the following finds! 2 rings pictured (the small one is 18, the large one is 9) Then..... Spotted with my eyes - not the detector! Thought it was junk but turned out to be an 8 gram 22ct...

    The final countdown.....almost 2016!

Well..... Now I am really determined! Over the last week or so things have been a little slow on the gold front! The weather has also been against us, with big swells, fairly high winds and murky, roughed up water. Have been land locked, forced to do the wet sand and dry sand of the local...

Faulty DD coil and steps to repair!

Hi guys - love the ATX as you all know and Garrett have been awesome with the warranty. My machine however is now approaching the warranty end - and, after two Years of use the stock DD coil gave up the ghost..... It was falsing, erratic and unusable! Anyway - rather than tossing the coil...

    The most lucky hunt ever......

Well after a comedy of errors yesterday morning and after squeezing in work stuff managed to get to a local beach for low tide - just at the low tide time (normally try and go a few hours earlier). This beach is massive by our standards, a good few KM long and no noticeable cuts etc, just tons...

Weekly wrap up with the the ATX

Pretty crappy weather here this week and hard to find a decent spot for detecting but trying to squeeze in the hours to make my target for the year! This week yielded several rings (3 junk - not shown, 3 silver and 2 gold!) From left to right - Silver ring with three small stones - Silver...

Hunted out beach! Old gold and a cannon.....

Oops -forgot to post these!!! Went to a "hunted out beach" and found a wee brass cannon, a few minutes later, found the carriage for the cannon also! This is the type that can be fired with a fuse and powder! May need to give it a shot and see if it still works! Pretty small, maybe 5cm...

    Gold in the scoop!!!

Went to a local beach yesterday and spent a few hours after work.... Very few targets but managed a 9ct ring with stones (unsure what they are)..... Time is ticking till the 31st December and would love to make last years target!!!! On a side note - seems like the ATX large coil / stock coil...

    Always check the junk pile....

Well, this is a true story! Last week went for a hunt on a regular beach of mine with a mate. After a few hours digging - found a gold ring and three silvers - was already pretty happy! My friend found a small gold/brass coloured target and decided to have it checked by a jeweller! Turned...

Big signal! And not silver ;)

Last week went for another water hunt in a beach not normally detected by myself....very few targets and in a totally random part of the beach.... Suddenly a massive signal! Thought it was just junk until a very large white gold ring appeared in the scoop! 13.xx grams! Very old drop And a...

    Gold and Silver weekend!

Another hunt over the weekend tried in vein in the water with the result being 2 old silver rings - both should clean up nicely. Found a spot on the beach with "hard pack" blackish sand! So circled around that area for a few hours - producing two more silver rings and what appears to be a...

    Gold from the rocks....

Hi All Had a hunt up north with a friend the other day in an area that is normally very popular. Very very limited targets - just a handful and after approx three hours in the water a tiny "hi Lo" on the ATX. About 1.6 metres deep at low tide - stuck in a gap between two rocks ..... On end...

Beautiful weather and a fantastic hunt

Well... Today the stars aligned somewhat and I managed to sneak out of work early to a beach I thought was well done. I spent probably 2.5 hours in the water - targets few and far between but generally the results are great! Used the ATX on sensitivity 10, discrim 3 and decided just to hunt...

Out and About - Beautiful Sun and Gold!

Hi All....went up north for a few days with family and managed to squeeze in a few hunts - not productive way too much sand! Upon return went to a few of my favourite local beaches and managed over a few hunts: A) decent 9ct men's band - was old and tarnished but cleaned up nicely! B) female...

    d.d.d..diamonds :)

Well - after a few failed hunted this week I went out for the afternoon after work....not expecting much at all (especially given the total bust yesterday) First beach was a bust also - just sinkers and various junk :) The second beach only a few coins - disheartened, was going to head home...
