    I took it apart and see it is an led backlight. Test with 20v and 220 ohm resistor.

    I found an EL driver board in my junk stash. I tried it on my backlight and it did not light. So I don't know yet what the heck it is - LED or EL panel.

    Super modified CTX?

    I now have a third CTX I’m restoring. On this one I’m going to try a longer lower shaft or more coverage. Have to keep the swings slow though. I still am not finding water targets so I don’t have to worry about resistance yet. I haven’t ordered any CF but I like the thinner shafts shown above.

    Help for coil ears

    If you put any sideways pressure on the shaft it causes a pulling action on one ear. Do it enough and pow one or both go. Just happened to my CTX. I am trying abs glue with a stiffener suggested but if that doesn’t work I grind them down flat and make a Replacement using a section of 2” ABS...

    I think mine is under or below the stress relief. So do I slit it lengthwise or do I cut around the base? Will it slide up or is it glued to the cable? What to seal it all up with after I fix it? Needs to be waterproof. Sugru maybe?

    I bought a 11” CTX coil that has an intermittent at the cable connection to the coil. Anyone ever repaired this problem and have any tips? Can I somehow save the stress relief or just start by slitting it lengthwise and fining the culprit wire.

    Where are all the CTX users?

    Two things could make the CTX talk come back - a firmware upgrade with a new feature or two or removing the coil lock so 3rd party coils could be used.

    There may be a connection inside the enclosure that may have lost contact. Try removing and clean with isopropyl alcohol and replace. Or I’ll trade you a working tricked out Excal for it…. :-)
